Definitely worth a visit if you're on the island! It was especially interesting to learn about how folks here got by over the centuries (logging, mining, hunting, farming, etc.). The Finish corner was really neat. There were immigrants here who sought to live their values and, however briefly, build a utopian society.
I wonder if the Chippewa were consulted about how their ancestors were represented. There is a reference to their presence on the island into the 1830s. What happened? How was the land taken from them? What do Chippewa nowadays think about it? Do native folks still a connection...
   Read moreGlad we stopped in, the museum though not extremely big as far as the building is concerned was packed with a wide variety of artifacts and information. The hours were 1-4 so check to make sure they're open before stopping. We spend about 45 minutes there and that was just glancing everything over and really checking out a few of the things that really grabbed our attention. I'm sure you could spend a couple hours there if you wanted to check everything out. The layout is very open, possibly not suited to young kids that can't keep their curiosity from having them grab...
