Millers is a great place to swim, kayak or to have a hang with the family. Once you park there is a little wooded area walk down to the water. There is plenty of spacing to set up your chairs within the tree covered areas around the pond. You are free to bring tents, chairs and food so long as you clean after yourself. The water area is relatively clear of larger rocks and very clean when I went in with my kids. I was quite surprised and had a great time.
Parking is VERY limited. To be fair to all visitors, please carpool in one car if possible. Especially on summer weekends. There are probably only about 25-30 spots. I had seen groups showing up with 5-6 cars waiting to get in when I was there. Not cool. This isn’t Hammonasset or Rocky Neck State Park, folks, where parking is plentiful.
The park staff does a great job of ensuring traffic is handled well going in and out as well as restricting people from blocking the entrance. Be nice and thoughtful to them. They work hard and want to ensure the safety of all who...
Read moreGrew up in the area and have watched this place evolve from a local secret to the hottest spot in central CT. The parking has remained the same size (50-60 cars) and the crowd varies. If you want a serene, intimate nature experience, be here any day between 8-11am. If you want to have a picnic, secure a spot by noon, your luck runs thin between 1-5pm. If you want to fish, come on a rainy day or as close to 6pm as possible when the noise stops and the fish come back to the shore. If you want to swim, the best swimming areas are all to the left of the entrance, there's 7-8 spots of varying geography, most of which will be taken on hot afternoons and as someone who's come here after work in the summer for most of my life, just ask the nice people if you can share. It saves you a lot of walking and disappointment. I highly recommend the rope swing on the 2nd to last spot on the left but NOT the one on the right side...
Read moreThis was the most technically challenging mountain biking I had ever done and I loved every min! At only 9 miles and 1400 ft you might be quick to dismiss this ride, but the numbers don’t tell the full story. The red loop is labeled black diamond and it's 100% accurate. For this reason I would not attempt this loop unless you are an skilled intermediate, or advanced level rider.
I would park at the Foot Hills Rd lot and hit the “Red Loop” going clockwise. The trailhead is located about 100ft from the lot on the left down a gravel path. The loop is extremely easy to follow and is marked with red blazes everywhere. If you are into slow speed tech, big rock slabs and skinnies I would highly recommend this place!
