Nice beach but years ago I remember you could actually park before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. This year I tried going on days before and after the holiday when it was still very warm out and they closed off the public parking lot. They do check for resident stickers on the other side.
There's a small area across from the large public lot where maybe 5 cars without stickers can fit but of course that gets full and the parking before the bridge fills too, it's very obviously a way to keep people they deem as lesser off "their" beach if you are only welcome when someone is there to collect $20.
Read about how beach access isn't as limited in every other state except Maine, which is just as bad with privatizing beaches & limiting the parking and access on the few public beaches. It's rooted in classism and racism. Other public beaches nearby Duxbury now have their signs up that you need a pass, making it confusing for people to know if they can park there off season too. It's not cute or welcoming. So "progressive" of MA to privatize most of the coastline for the wealthiest white folks & make effort to subtly keep others away...
Read moreDuxbury beach is very nice and large. There is a public parking area that costs $20 cash only... You were warned. The residents have their own access area including parking on the beach towards the south. The water is a bit warmer here compared to other parts of the nearby coast, but its still friged Atlantic water once you are a foot deep. Besides my fish picture, the beach is well kept and accessible. There is the longest wood bridge in the NE which was a bit scary to drive over hearing the planks wobble under the car weight (we survived). While at the beach, a state police alerted everyone of a fin sighting. About 10 min later a police helicopter was patrolling up and down the coast. It was very professional and worth the...
Read moreWhat can I even say about Duxbury 🌴 Beach❓❗ It is a majestic, wonderful place. The scenery is beyond beautiful and I treasure my times and memories that I feel so blessed to have had!! I grew up 10 minutes from here, worked at the here protecting the Near Endangered bird species, 🐦 the piping plover 🐦 I now live across the country, where the only "beaches" are those on a lake (which it sometimes is a stretch to even call these spots an actual beach). But I cannot wait until I can bring my 1st child that i recently had to Duxbury Beach for the first time and experience it in an entirely new...
