When I was about 18 , we used to walk the catwalk under the roadway high on acid, and there were places where kids who had come before us had laid boards from the catwalk to the inner ledges of the arches, walked across ( hundreds of feet in the air), and painted their names. I once dropped a bowling ball from the catwalk onto an abandoned car down by the turtle Creek, and it went right through the roof. 240 feet high and over 1500 feet long, this bridge was built between 1929 and 1932. It is an historic engineering marvel. As others have stated, it is best viewed from below. A novel view I recently discovered is on the bike trail below Kennywood along the Mon River. The panoramic view of the Turtle Creek valley from the deck can't be beat, though. On a clear day you can see all the way to downtown Pittsburgh—the USX building is...
