I love this state park and have been going since the 80s. I am not impressed with the parks lack of compassion for wildlife that me and my partner witnessed a about a month and a half ago. I was on the beach and witnessed a bird acting erratic and hurt. I had been looking for beach pebbles and when I looked down there was two small eggs right on the surface where hundreds of visitors and unleashed dogs walk. I almost stepped on it myself . I panicked and told my parter to alert the park attendant and ask for a cone to mark the nesting sight and warn visitors of the nests location and limit stress to the killdeer bird. When my partner came back no one accompanied or cared about the bird to help protect it's eggs or label the nesting site. I stayed within a spaced distance to the nest ward off anyone walking towards it's eggs incase they stepped on them by accident. This is a heavy traffic area. My partner expressed they only gave him facts on the killdeer and mentioned they usually don't nest out there usually and it is a odd occurance and they act hurt when there is activity near the nesting site. Even more reason for them to put a cone to warn others. My partner spoke with two staff. One staff could careless and only cared about going home is what my partner mentioned and was just sitting in his truck. It would have been a simple solution to protect this killdeers nest with a cone and a note to let others know there is a nest present to avoid disturbance and help calm a very stressed bird due to the heavy foot traffic. Very disappointed in the staff. If you don't enjoy protecting wildlife and their habitat you should not work at a state park preservation period. I will take your job and make sure the wildlife is protected and cared for. I couldn't let this one slide. Please Befair staff do better. I am a avid bird lover and love all aspects of nature and wildlife. You all really disappointed me and my partner for your lack of concern and lack of compassion for this very stressed bird and her nest. Please do better to protect the animals and their nest in your state park. You obviously do not respect the visitors that actually respect the rules of state parks because you did nothing to address their concerns with in your park when bringing very valid concerns for the welfare of this bird and her eggs. I hope we never have to see this again when attending your park. Do better. It disgusted us so much I am still bothered to write this review. I go to state parks to enjoy nature not to watch it be destroyed or...
Read moreThis is a lovely park! The entire park is paved and mostly flat and is wonderfully wheelchair accessible. The (closed to camping for winter) forest loop is an especially beautiful walk with some minor elevated areas. The park is clean and well maintained and felt mostly safe. We stayed in the accessible spot T2 in the main loop. The public restroom near this spot was barely accessible in my manual wheelchair and is in pretty rough shape / quite old. The shower in this restroom is not accessible (too narrow to enter, lip on shower entrance, shower head too high). I can't believe I have to say this, but the dumpster in the campground is also not wheelchair accessible as it's this crazy oversized trash compactor on which the door is super high up and unreachable from my wheelchair. However, there are garbage cans throughout the park, especially in front of the cabins. I think it would be helpful if the park added such garbage cans near the accessible campsites as well. The bathroom near the ranger station is accessible, but due to the various sketchy men wandering about and leering at me, I did not feel safe using it. Both T-Mobile and Verizon cell service in the main loop was negligible at best (less than 1 mgs upload and download). Cell service was fine on the beach loop and in the day use area of the park near the water. The rangers and staff were very friendly and helpful! The park volunteers were cordial but treated me with clear disapproval. All in all I would return and recommend the park for wheelchair users especially if your van /...
Read moreFirst I want to say I am a loyal customer to Costco and am usually more than satisfied with the company. Unfortunately I'm once again disappointed with the Gig Harbor Optical department's customer service. Granted it was a busy Sunday so I took a number and knew I would have quite a wait. After about 30 minutes my number came up and 1 of the 2 Associates looked at my number, excused herself spoke to the 2nd Associate and said I'm taking a break! The woman looked around at the other 5 people waiting and said; "You are coming right back right?" She left! I had to wait another 20 minutes and watched 3 upset people leave. When the Associate that stayed finally was able to help me she was so flustered she couldn't focus on what I wanted, which was simply to purchase a pair of frames - which I had told her. I had explained that I would be getting my new prescription later in the month but had found glass frames I liked. When she told me the total I was surpised. I had said I just want to purchase the frames today. She got upset with me, so I said I'm sorry you misunderstood me...She stayed irritated with me as if it were my fault she was trying to rush, not paying attention. It's Costco's responsibility to have enough staff & for them to train staff when it's appropriate to leave the floor for 10 minute breaks. This is not the first time I have experienced rude treatment at the Opitcal dept at Gig Harbor. I usually go to Silverdale as they are extremely professional and polite. I was with someone who wanted to go...
