Its home to my favorite Mountain Biking trails! I grew up coming to Nonotuck, from summer camp to swimming in the community pool to cookouts to playing in the sports fields (outdoor basketball courts, baseball diamonds, field hockey & soccer fields) going to special events in the pavilions, its a beautiful and fun park that I always enjoy going to.
What really stands out to me though is the trails. Riding the bike trails in Nonotuck is my favorite thing to do when I am in Easthampton! They go all around and through the park, there are multiple paths to explore, one of which you can use it to cut through to the White Brook Middle School track & football field.
As you come down the hill just after entering Nonotuck there are entrances to the paths on the right and left side of the road at the base of the hill, you will be able to see a sign marking the entrance of the nature trail on the left (I'll edit this to upload some pictures next time I go). Both of these trails connect to each other to form a loop around all of Nonotuck and also branch off in many other trails and paths.
Its much harder to take the left path, its semi overgrown and clearly not regularly traveled. It skirts the pond and circles around the whole park to the right path entrance (exit in this case). There are some serious root areas you need to climb and very rough spots, a lot of small but steep inclines and declines, many over the aforementioned tree roots and very close to the water of Nonotuck pond, in some places you will be climbing up a 10" wide path up 45* hill over roots and hit a 90* turn that opens to a path not much wider than 1" with a steep hill on the right side and a small drop to the water on the left so if you have bad balance or slow reflexes you might end up taking an unscheduled swim, in fact most of the left path ride is on the edge of the water so if you arent a confident rider (or at least like to ride hard and challenge yourself) its not the way I'd suggest starting out. There are a couple spots you will probably need to dismount to cross due to trail decay, a tree down etc.
From right to left many of the roughest spots on the pond edge trail are on a decline making them much easier to ride over and you have options to skip that much harder pond trail while still having a fun ride through the woods, you can go much faster and play around more on the right half just keep focused and keep your eyes open for walkers, people are more likely on the right side these days (I havent seen anyone on the left half of the trail in quite some time)
Regardless of what you are planning to do Nonotuck is a great place to go whether its for family fun, a bit of exercise, a nice swim, a picnic with your sweetheart or if you're like me a seat-of-your-pants ride through the trails right...
Read moreMy children attend camp Nonotuck for almost 2 years until i had to pull them due to the extreme hostility towards me when I expressed concerns to the directed/ owner John with the way my son was treated for an on going health issue that he has a doctors note for. He was humiliated in front of tons of kids by the staff. He is 7 years old and had a accident in the pool the gentleman John and the staff Ethan both were more concerned about how much money the park lost because they had to close the pool for 24 hours. Which it's a public pool and these things are going to happen unfortunately. I was told my son would be kicked out of camp for good because they are not trained for kids who have accidents. It was a TINY LITTLE TURD!!! They had my son and me circled at pick up with 3 to 4 staff telling us Jose can never come back to camp and when I told them they can't kick a child of of camp for having an accident with a doctors note for a medical condition. The head counselor then stepped in and state my son would only be kicked out for 2 days!! For having an accident. They gentleman John was more worried about they money they lost then the way my child was treated. He yelled and talked over me the hole time I was trying to express my concerns. I was in the doctors office and staff could hear how unprofessional and rude he was. After the way these people responded to this situation i was very concerned and makes you wonder how they treat the kids when no ones around. Seven hills voucher program reached out to John directly and experienced the same hostility as well. Thank God I never sent them back...
