4/21/23: Wow. Just wow. Came here as a friend of my lives in Erie and Erie PA history intrigues me. !CASH ONLY both tour and gift shop currently! One of the figures that has their fingerprints all over Erie history in regards to US Histirical figures is Anthony Wayne. We arrived just as the tour times were opening. (1pm) and an amazingly friendly lady named Linda Hawley greeted us. The knowledge Linda has not just about Anthony Wayne and the Wayne family, but the homestead is incredible. Linda spent so much time giving us details and knowledge about the Wayne family, Anthony, and the homestead! Linda patience and time, we were so blessed to have gotten to meet her. Do want to offer a few suggestions; don't plan on going and expecting/wanting a "Independence Hall" sort of tour. 20 minutes. Boom. In and out. I suspect with Linda's knowledge she can provide ANY level of tour you might want. BUT! Trying to squeeze close to 350 years of history into 20 minutes can be... Limiting. We came to this area that afternoon specifically to visit Anthony Wayne's final resting place (about 8 minutes away) and the homestead. If you are huge into history in general, do yourself a favor and plan on giving the tour ample time. The house is incredible well preserved, the artifacts they have on display are ASTOUNDING, and just someone like Linda who knows so much, even down to listening to how they recreated the exact paint colors and how they found the paint is so interesting. My friends husband in Erie is like me, he is super into US History and the history of his area, that if I can try to succeed in visiting again with him, I want to go back. Such a wonderful experience with Linda listening to and aborsbing knowledge. Highly...
Read moreWe had our wedding at the AWH 11.6.21 and I can't say enough positive things about this venue! From the moment we toured the venue back in 2019 we knew this was where we wanted to get married as it is so beautiful and unique. Angela was very accommodating during covid and helped us easily postpone our 2020 wedding until 2021. Let me tell you it was worth the wait! The AWH staff went above and beyond to help ensure we had the perfect day. The grounds are so beautiful and the tent itself was breathtaking. I was worried about being cold because it was a chilly November day but Lynn easily switched cocktail hour to be inside with a few outdoor tables the morning of the wedding. The tent was so warm when we all entered for the reception and with the lights and candles it was the romantic vision I had always dreamed of. We also encountered a medical emergency during dinner with our grandfather and the AWH staff were all extremely attentive and 911 was immediately called and he was taken to the hospital. He is okay and was thankfully discharged the next day! Our captain and assistant captain were AMAZING and always made sure my husband and I were taken care of during the reception especially when we were shaken up during the emergency. The bartenders were on point the entire night and the servers were also great, I can't thank every staff member enough! The food was incredible and by far the best we've ever had at a wedding, and many of our guests complimented us on how tasty the food was as well. The day was such a blur and went by so quickly but I am so happy we picked the AWH to host our special day, don't hesitate...
Read morei just had my wedding at AWH, overall great experience but i wanted to give my honest pros/cons: the wait staff and the wedding planners are fantastic! Payton and Heather were great and the assistants the day of kept me fed and hydrated and i felt so taken care of! the venue itself is insanely gorgeous!!! The cons i felt were as follows: the beef brisket we had at the wedding tasting was amazing, but the brisket the day of was undercooked and not very edible. the potatoes were undercooked. another guest complained about the spinach, and the side veggies were also undercooked. for the amount of money you pay, your food should taste good! the signature drink also tasted bad and did not seem like it had any alcohol or sage syrup in it at all. it tasted mostly like club soda and we bought extra vodka specifically for that. additionally, i don’t know if this should’ve been the dj’s job or the venues job but it wasn’t made clear enough when the fire pit was open for s’mores, when coffee was served, where the cake was, etc etc, so i feel my guests missed out on some things. I was also surprised at how many uncharges there were on practically everything, but that’s probably standard at every venue. Overall, I had a great night and was very happy with my venue, i just wish the dinner was better as a lot of my guests did not enjoy it. they did say however that the butternut squash...
