A childhood story that was shared that many have never heard about. The movie was a great storyteller adventure and has so many reflections of past to pass down and the staff are amazing. Thanks to much to Georgia for allowing my Mom and I to join her private tour and to be included in her history telling of Putnam County Georgia and the story of Song of the South, Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit and his furry friends telling their story. Thank you all at the wonderful little museum 😊.

A forgotten part of American history that is a must see for those who like an off the beaten oath adventure. This isn't a grandeur adventure but a simple educational and fun part of american history that Disney made a movie about. The grounds are well maintained, the information and presentation is excellent and if you stop and shut off the world, take in all the you're standing in front of, it may really just hit you what the grounds really were and who the man was.

This was an absolute treat and emotionally joyous visit for me. I feel beyond grateful that this museum exists. It truly keeps the spire of Uncle Remus alive. Once I discovered of its existence I had to make it a top go-to visit! The kind lady was very informative and highly knowledgeable of the museums history.

(Here's a secret tip for you: if you want to see "Song of the South" which has been suppressed by Disney, you can buy the DVD here.) I saw it as a child and loved it. The songs, the mixed live and animation, Uncle Remus. The first movie in which an African American won an Oscar, and well deserved.

Disney has refused to release it on the grounds that it is pretty darned racist. And it is. And that's worth a debate. This movie should be watched.

According to Song of the South reality, rich white folks suffer terribly with marital difficulties and with being forced to live in mansions and wear velvet suits and lace collars and being made fun of by the other kids. But the black folks are right there, waiting in their unheated, unplumbed shacks to love the white folks and make everything okay again. So I think it's a very realistic and happy story.

That said, James Baskett as Uncle Remus is wonderful. He was the first person to act with animated characters, and he was amazing. The music is wonderful. And if we suppress history - in this case the presented image of the roles in mid-20th century America of blacks and whites, we forget where we came from, and the work we need to do in our assumptions and attitudes. Song of the South should be...

This place is a J-E-W-E-L ! ! & the curator is a close 2nd . She ( Ms Georgia ) is quite the conversationalist . She is a long time resident & is the perfect person to engage . On my way out I saw a car parking & knowing she had just gone to lunch & wanted to advise them to say around for her return , , & his reply was " We drop by every time we travel between Florida & our home " . & & the town of Eatonton is quite inviting ( including the folks ) for many reasons incl "; The school museum for a trip back in time ) . Lake Oconee is a major draw . I plan to return , now that I have discovered a diamond of a place...

I stopped in today to visit this museum. When I arrived there seemed to be story time or something happening so I was quiet. I was asked why did I come. I replied I wanted to look around. This sweet lookin lady said you will not look around, you will take a tour. I nodded ok. She said the cost is $25. I didn’t respond so she said did you know that. I shook my head no. She said it’s on the front door and didn’t I see the sign? I shook my head no and she said she always reads the signs before entering. I stepped away and she said something I didn’t hear and everyone laughed. I felt so embarrassed and...
