Lovely, quiet, scenic park. The park itself is very clean and seems like a great, family friendly area. The top of Mt. Simon had a lot of broken glass from beer bottles, and a ton of graffiti, and the foliage was overgrown so I didn't get a good view of Eau Claire either, which was a little disappointing. I hiked to the top of Mt. Simon from the back of the park near the residential neighborhood since it seemed like it would be an easier hike than accessing it from the park itself. The hike to the top of Mt. Simon is not easy and quite steep, without any dedicated/maintained paths. I climbed up on what I presume was soil eroded by water draining to the bottom of the hill. The uneven terrain combined with fall leaves was a bit disconcerting, especially on the way down. Be sure to wear good footwear and go slowly, especially if there are any leaves on the ground. And if you have any fear of heights, you may want to reconsider. I had a moment of panic 3/4 of the way up when I realized...

Oh Mount Simon, thou regal crest, The crown jewel of Eau Claire's wooded breast! King of parks, with stately grace, Thy towering bluffs and tranquil space.
From the mighty Chippewa's ceaseless flow, To wooded trails where dreamers go, Your cliffs and paths in splendor reign, A monarch's court in nature's domain.
Yet, tarnished is thy royal veil, By needles strewn, by scars that pale, The grandeur of thy throne so high, Still shines beneath a troubled sky.

Oh citizens, with pride and care, Defend this king, make thy pledge fair! For Mount Simon’s soul, though weathered, stands, Awaiting love and helping hands.
Rise, Mount Simon, as king reborn, With sunrise gilding each new morn! Forever noble, forever bright, The pride of Eau Claire,...
Read moreBeen coming here for disc golf for over twenty years - we used to skip class in high school to come here because we were all irresponsible hippies back then. For the most part it hasn't changed, although a few of the baskets have been moved around from time to time, I think they've been the same now for about 15 years. Strangely it took me over twenty years to finally hike up to Top of the World, even though we spent some time at the rope swing below. We took the long way round, which starts near the back of the parking lot vs. climbing up from the streets. I recommend taking this long way round since it is a better workout and it goes along the pond. Other than disc golf and hiking, there is a playground that still has one of those old-fashioned digging contraptions, ball fields where I played with friends (my position: catcher), picnic areas, and a large boat landing. One of the best park areas...
