If you like quiet, remote country..then Hamburg is for you ..
Very small park located around Hamburg Mill Lake (Pond). Very remote and quiet with 30 waterfront camping spots. Park has 2 or 3 walking trails of different lengths with the longest only about 1.5 miles. Park is centered around a 1921 Grist Mill and Dam that creates the lake(pond). The mill is only open on special events. The park office is right by the Mill with very friendly park staff and offers rental canoe, kayaks, aqua cycles and fishing supplies. The lake supposedly has a variety of freshwater fish, the park office has some photos of some nice sized bass, crappie, and catfish.
NOTE...NO SWIMMING OR WADING AS THE WATER DOES HAVE ALLIGATOR(S)🐊. Our camping neighbors showed us video of a 5-6 ft gator swimming past the campsite in the early morning.
Camping sites have electric (30 amp) and water hookups only, no septic. There is a tank dump station at the exit of the campground. Sites all have gravel pads and drives, some have "buddy" sites with 2 sites parked in parallel for closer proximity to your camping companions. Most sites have good shade for at least part of the day depending on where you are in the campground.
You do have to pay for a park vehicle pass even when camping in addition to the camping fees, unless you have an annual pass. You only have to pay one time($5) for the duration...
Read moreHamburg State Park it's a nice place but not too much for kids to do there they really don't have a playground for little ones they need to clean the place up some I know it is probably state-funded but I all the money that we pay on taxes hunting license fishing license it seems it that State Park will be a nicer parked and what it is we have been there on picnics and like I said it does not accommodate kids they have nothing there for kids the only thing they have going I guess for them is their Campground were senior citizens like me and others can bring campers and RVs and stay a while deficient is okay A bit difficult at times but overall I give it three stars maybe one day. Dakin get the DNR or the state to help them make it a better place for kids to enjoy as a grandparent I will not take my grandson back out there there's nothing there for him to be he gets bored and wants to go home other than that it's...
Read moreIf you like quiet, isolated camping, this is the place for you. Bring what you may need because the nearest town is like 15 miles away..... yes, it's isolated but amazing. Almost every spot is waterfront. If you are looking for a site to enjoy quiet camping and really out in nature. Things to note.... there is ZERO T-MOBILE service, Verizon does ok, but it's fairly sparce out here when it comes to reception. Again, it's 15 miles to a town, and unlike just about every other State Parks, there is no Dollar General right outside the gate, so bring what you need, and you'll be fine. We loved it!!!!!
UPDATE: NOT THE PARKS FAULT..... but there seems to be a power issue out here. We've been here since Friday, and the ENTIRE park has lost power twice... maybe residual issues from that hurricane that passed through here. They got it fixed, and again, it's not a park issue but something you may need to be...
