We visited this beach a few months ago and had a lovely experience. Then today we packed up a picnic and a whole day’s worth of activities with our 2 year old and drove nearly an hour to get there only to be turned away because we didn’t have a reservation. This was news to us because when we last visited a few weeks ago there was no signage explaining this policy. There’s no guard shack/ ranger gatehouse with information explaining this either even as of today when this policy is in effect.
The policy is a reservation is required on weekends and holidays during the summer months.
Why is there no signage at the entrance to the park denoting this policy?! The only signage says ‘open to the public’. This would be a fantastic time to mention that you have to make a reservation in advance. Literally wasted an entire day because of poor communication. It’s ’open to the public’ alright but only with a reservation that isn’t mentioned anywhere. Our kid was hungry so we ended up picnicking in a parking lot because this beautiful park is quite isolated.
We didn’t bother going to the website because we knew when/ how to get there . I just checked the website (as the ranger advised) and sure enough the link is there but it’s buried in a text paragraph. It should be a banner heading that is quite obvious given that it’s literally the linchpin for experiencing the park.
Poor physical and digital signage. I hope others don’t learn the hard...
Read moreStill a great and free beach. I prefer this over sandy points and ocean city any day. Weekends will require passes which are online, but it is free and first come first serve. The passes are a great idea it creates less traffic, so you can have less people at the beach. Check out the direct website for "open day schedule" depending on the time of the year, the place could be open all 7 days.
Updated playground which now has shade. Bathroom meh. Basketball hoop meh. Wooden tables present. Sand meh (a lot of rocks) No life guard on duty, but by design if the young kids stay within the half moon they are pretty safe. Less than 3 feet in most locations in the half moon.
Check out the bacteria level before jumping...

You have to bring your own food because there is nowhere to get food from and you have to bring trash bags to pick up all your trash. Overall, we had...
