We scheduled a sleigh ride and dinner this December 2021. Our family loved the experience. There is ample parking and as you walk down to the historic cabin, you see a campfire and two sleighs set up with two horses each. These are truly sleighs on blades, not a wagon. They are gorgeous and supposedly weigh 4000 lbs. The horses pulling the sleighs are humongous. I can't remember the breeds they told me, but they each weigh 2000 to 3000 lbs. You can order some fancy hot or cold drinks before the ride and enjoy the outdoor fire. On the ride they offered us blankets to put on our laps. The sleigh driver gave us a history of the Bearcat Stables, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Horses are clearly well fed and cared for. When we got back we had a catered dinner of a spinach salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing, tomato bisque soup, then the entry was a choice of some fancy baked chicken thing or braised short ribs, steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, rolls, and berry cobbler with ice cream for dessert. The service for dinner was beyond good, the ladies attended you every spare minute and cleared dishes and brought you anything you needed. It was such a lovely evening and I highly recommend all you young lovers out there to take your girl on a romantic cozy date, you won't regret it. Marvelous business idea and great winter activity. They had Christmas music playing outside too. Just lots of thoughtful things put into this experience by the owners. Blessings!!! Hope you have...
Read moreI had an enjoyable ride at Bearcat Stables today. I chose the 2 hour ride, which was just perfect. Making the reservation was simple, the check in process upon arrival was quick and simple.
Each horse/saddle is equipped with a saddle bag to carry water and personal belongings. If you forget to bring water, they have water and soft beverages for sale. They have a restroom as well, clean but somewhat rustic.
As an experienced horsewoman, I could see that the horses are well cared for and healthy. They are also well behaved and dependable so that a first time rider will have an enjoyable ride.
The scenery on the ride is just beautiful! On the two hour ride one will ride on mountains, through an Aspen forest and on a plain with wildflowers. If you love experiencing the outdoors, while on horseback, you will love this ride! If you desire activity besides walking (i.e. trotting or faster), then this might not be the right ride.
I highly recommend...
Read moreLast summer had a great 1-hour ride with my daughter and two grandchildren. Today my sister-in-law and I went on the 1-hour ride and it was a most unsatisfactory experience due to two horses that should not have been on the trail ride. Maple, a very fat female, did nothing but eat grass constantly, holding up those of us behind her and causing the riders ahead to have to keep stopping for us to catch up. This horse didnt even complete the trail;she stood in a field eating grass while the rest of us rode a loop around her. My sister-in-law’s horse Miles wasn’t much better. Neither horse responded well to pulling of reins or kicks. The ride leader was unconcerned. She said they fed the horses poor hay so they made up for it by eating lots of grass! One wrangler commented at the end of the ride that “maybe we shouldn’t t have put Maple on the ride.” But she apparently is a favorite of some of the workers here so she is favored over the experience of...
