
I went to check out the trail yesterday and the lake was still frozen with lots of snow. My kids and I went walking all the way from the closed gate up until we reached the lake. It was my first time there and I have only lived in colorado for 2 years so I didnt know what to expect. There were several people there but they all used their skis. They do have restrooms in the parking lot and in the lake. It took us 3 hours to go up and come back down. I didnt think we were going to make it. It was so difficult. It's a good uphill trek, though Aspen groves & open meadows with fantastic views of the Roaring Fork Valley. At about 4 miles in, you will reach the Thomas Lakes which provide you with backcountry, primitive campsite, fishing and breathtaking views of Sopris.
