Worth a stop if you’re in El Paso and looking to reconnect with nature. A well run visitor center and park means great hiking trails, spots to camp and paved roads for biking. Not to mention the beautiful views! Went during the weekday and had the trails mostly to ourselves, and our leashed dog enjoyed the quick hike as well.

The entrance is not very clear and easy to pass it. Worth a visit if you’re around. They have a visitor center that you can buy souvenir and check for information. Ticket is $5 if I remember it correctly.

Staff are super friendly and helpful! The fee for a permit also was much less than expected and was super easy to get into the park! Great place to come and hike for all hiking levels!

I haven't visited the Visitor Center except to pay the daily fee for the Franklin Mountains State Park, but it's always clean with modern bathrooms, and has very friendly staff. It hasn't been busy or crowded any time that I have been (5+ times) and I've gone back in Spring and now in Summer, on both weekend and weekday.

I haven't tired purchasing the park pass online but I hear that is a good option.

Also, for the trails that far away from the visitor center where there is a drop box with paper forms where you put one copy of the form and the $5/person. I've used that...

I didn't actually walk on any trails, but I was able to drive as far as the Mundy Gap parking location. I went there to meet my grandson, who was on a hike with JROTC. What I did see of the trails did intrigue me, & my grandson informs me, they are good to hike. I can say good things about the Visitor's Center; lots of "local", pertinent information, a variety of drinks & snacks, as well as souvenirs. The staff was knowledgeable & friendly, the restrooms were clean, there was ample parking...

VERY IMPORTANT: ask for a map. I didn’t and GoogleMaps will not help you out there… or download Alltrails or Strava to help you.Hard to beat a $5 price tag for all the adventure your boots can handle! Important to know: they don’t take American Express. They will ask for an ID and the zip code where you live. Wear hiking boots, some trails are just paths with large rocks on them. I will do it...
