Edit: So glad to learn that the bridge was just being updated. Looking forward to seeing it now. 2024: Beautiful area! Crystal clear water runs under this historic bridge. Beautiful! So sad they removed the pony trusses. :-(

This would be an amazing bridge if built today. Impossible to believe it's 90 years old. It truly seems to go on forever. An essential sight on a Route 66 road trip.

If you enjoy Route 66 history this is a good stop. Even though the bridge deck is new and wider than the original, they did preserve the pony trusses.

THE PONY BRIDGE IS NOW OPEN, with widening and rebuilding of the deck and reestablishment of the trusses completed May 2024. Well worth a very short and convenient detour from Interstate 40 to see this iconic and uniquely scenic portion of Old Route 66. Not Golden Gate or Brooklyn, but this 3/4-mile long feat of Depression-era engineering helped tie the United States together "from...

They have widened it slightly. Construction is coming along. They will allow bicycle tourists to cross, but they recommend a detour (that involves highway 40, or a LOT of extra miles. The old truss work is being refurbished for decoration. It's going to be a nice improvement when...

Very short excursion off interstate to see a piece of history of both engineering and route 66. North or Eastern side has a fully paved pull-out with information signs. Freshly painted when we were there. The arches seem to...
