On a sunny and clear day, very few places are as beautiful as this long stretch of beach. There's a bike/ running path along from El Segundo down to Torrance beach. Along the way, there's beautiful stretches of beach, some areas with huge waves (along El Porto). The sandy area is wide, and in some parts, is quite a walk until you get to the shore. The closer you are to LAX, the more plane traffic you get to see which for me, is always a treat since I'm something of a plane spotter. The water is cold most times, but you get acclimated to it. The waves and surf can be rough, so good swimming skills are a MUST in this stretch of beach/ocean. You can find yourself very far from your beach spot if you don't mind your surroundings. Also, if you relax to much, you may find yourself well outside the point where the waves form and break, and swimming back may induce panic if you're not a seasoned swimmer so be careful. Otherwise, this beach is awesome in every way from just going along for a walk, or spending a day in the water. People are everywhere, and there never a dull moment. You can either pay and park in certain areas, or like me, just go during the week says when it is not packed and park along the residential areas, but PLEASE DO BE RESPECTFUL of the residents and their properties. Park mindfully, and be respectful. And your day...
Read moreThis review is for El Segundo Beach - with entrance on Grand Ave. Parking: Small PAID parking lot. Tons of spots usually available year round, except the weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Hours: Parking lot is open from sunrise to sunset Noise Level: I do not find this beach location to be noisy from LAX. As your get closer to LAX, it gets louder to the point where you can't hold a conversation. Cleanliness: Do not go after it has rained, there is always a problem with sewer runoff. When in doubt, check LA County's website for any warnings. Facilities: Porta potties year round and bathrooms during the season. Outdoor shower year round. Sports: Volleyball Nets, path for walking, cycling, etc. Temperature: When visiting check the temperature for this location. Water temperature: This is the Pacific - it's cold year round, be prepared! Overall Summary: I go to this beach often & I have not had experienced any issues with unpleasant smells. While the scenery behind you isn't ideal, the quite, empty, peaceful beach with great sunset views make up for it. Bring a picnic, sit back and enjoy the...
