Brought my wife and 3 boys (2, 4, and 6) on a Saturday morning on a whim. We drove roughly an hour based on prior reviews, and it was 100% worth it. Right now, most things are fun out of their house and functions quite well. They are getting ready to open up a new building with new enclosures and more space and we all look forward to going back in the summer to see. We had to be one of the first visitors of the day and we were greeted by Paul with baby attached. Very friendly right from the start. I talked to him and he was knowledgeable and friendly about the whole thing. Meanwhile, his wife, who clearly has a passion for reptiles, entertained the others. The variety is pretty good, especially for being a married couple (not a large business). They also rescue animals, which only adds to the personality. Aside from the reptiles, they had a emu out back that was very friendly and well loved. The kids loved feeding the emu. Our favorite part at the end was handling some of the animals. I was handed a snake (as the rest of the family is scared of them). A tortoise was brought out and pretty cool. Then..... she broke out their crested gecko. My 6 year old and wife fell in love with it and enjoyed learning about geckos in general. And, another thing I thought was cook was that as we walked in, some baby tortoises were actively hatching. Great timing. Overall, A great experience that is very fairly priced. I'd much rather give my money to them, seeing how much they do care for the animals. ...

It was so worth it to have one on one time with the animals and Paul and Andi, asking them questions and learning cool facts. I have always wanted to get more up close and personal with reptiles but usually just try to squint into dark small glass enclosures at zoos. Many of these animals were taken out for us to pet, watch feedings, hold, and take some VERY COOL family selfies including holding a boa constrictor! We fell in love with the cutest little Kenyan Sand Boa (our first encounter) and ended up adopting him and bringing him home from vacation on the way back from our trip to OBX! Paul and Andi are very responsive and helpful - we were able to pack our Boa (Oreo) in a container as well as including everything ready to go for our new pet including a terrarium, light, etc. They also have hissing cockroaches we got to hold!! my kids dropped at least two of them but were super excited since they are really into bugs. Def coming back next time I am in the area and...
Read moreA friendly couple who own a small space and a very vibrant selection of reptile species, a few birds, and more. As an avid reptile lover since childhood, every second that I spent here was a blast. Paul(one of the owners) was very enthusiastic about the collection and was quite happy telling us about the more exotic species in the exhibit. Some of the reptiles are so friendly that they even let them roam around the exhibit freely. Many others are safe to be touched and pet under supervision.
It may not look like much on the outside, but the owners pour their time, heart, and soul into the work they do, while also rescuing and providing sanctuary for abandoned or injured reptiles. An awesome experience for anyone who loves reptiles, likes to learn about animals, or even just for taking a break off of the interstate into/out of the OBX.
Definitely worth the price of admission; I'd even go far enough to say that the trip is worth so much more than 5$ per adult. Highly recommend taking a stop here - especially if you have young and animal...
