(Canopy Tour experience)TL;DR: Long Hollow Canopy Tours = Safety + Exhilaration + Laughter + Nature.
This was my first canopy tour/zipline experience. I am a moderate-skill top-rope belay climber and have experienced one challenge ropes course prior to my time with Long Hollow. I'm "reasonably" fit but certainly no athlete.
I was HIGHLY impressed with the attention to detail provided by Long Hollow Canopy Tours. The entire experience flowed very smoothly: from check-in and equipment fitting, through transport and ground school, through the zipline course itself, to the final experience and emailing of souvenir photos. Nathan drove our UTV; Sean and Madi were our zipline guides; Mackenzie runs the Tours and sets the tone and policies for the entire operation.
Madi & Sean were super professional. Always attentive to safety, checking our snap-shackles, carabiners, carabiner gates and cross-checking with each other before every single traversal. They performed their safety checks on all 8 in our group quickly and efficiently without ever making us feel like we were waiting. I was super impressed at their ability to keep up their enthusiasm, friendliness and vigilance, tour after tour without ever getting complacent. They learned all our names and referred to each of us by name throughout the entire tour, frequently checking in with us on our comfort levels and encouraging us to express ourselves and own each traversal. They made us feel like insiders to the secret world of life in the treetops, and NEVER like cargo to be shepherded along (as I have with some other adventure experiences.)
Madi and Sean smoothly adjusted to the varying needs of everyone in our group, working equally well with the bold and the timid, the experienced and the newbies, the young and old alike (our oldest was in their 70s!) The personal equipment and the zipline equipment all appeared to be in excellent condition.
If you've ever wondered what life in the treetops is like; if you've secretly wished you lived in the world of Avatar and float from tree to tree; if you think now might be the time to replace your fear of heights with a sense of wonder, then Long Hollow Canopy Tours is the place to start.

Read moreFor a special father daughter bonding adventure I booked this for my husband and daughter when we were going to be spending a couple nights in nearby Galena. Our daughter has sensory issues and is fearful and overwhelmed easily however Karla and Brittany did such a great job as soon as she finished she said I want to do this with a group of friends sometime. I can honestly say from when they discreetly weighed them (as they do everyone to make sure they are in the safe weight limits) to when we said goodbye it was the most positive experience for both of them. The gps took us seamlessly to the door even though it was in the middle of a very picturesque country setting. There was plenty of parking and an area to sit and wait until it is your turn to board the vehicles to go to the start of the adventure. The two girls who were their tour leaders were outstanding, Brianna & Karla were fun, funny and attentive to every detail so the adventure through the treetops was not just fun, but safe for everyone. They took all the time each person needed to ensure they all knew what they were doing and felt safe while doing it. Another person and I were not doing the ziplining but they let us join on the ride up to watch the training and the first couple runs they then came back up, picked us up and gave us a ride to a beautiful shelter area to sit and wait for our zipliners to finish. For those doing the treetop tour it included multiple runs of different lengths and heights all along the guides were snapping photos which could be purchased at the end of the tour. Karla and Brittany were amazing at keeping them safe and entertained the whole time they were zipping along free as the breeze. When the group was about to do the long run to finish the adventure one of the ground crew came back and picked us up so we could watch them do the last run and jump off the pole enjoying a couple seconds of...
Read moreWe visited Long Hollow during Phase 3 of Covid. The staff definitely took the necessary precautions. Everyone was wearing masks the whole time, all guests used sanitizer before putting equipment on, and you go out with just the group you came with. Due to the nature of the activity you aren't that close to the instructors most of the time, anyway. It felt like a virus-safe activity!
As far as zip lining, we also felt safe and had a great time! We have zip lined other places, and Long Hollow was as safe as any. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us confidence. It was my 10-year-olds first zip lining experience, and they made him feel comfortable and gave him extra time on the practice line. We all had a great time! There are some longer and faster runs, so even the experienced in our family enjoyed it! I would definitely go back again!
That didn't take long. We took the kids (ages 10 and 12) back on 6/14 for the Challenge Course and had another excellent experience at Long Hollow. Once again, the guides (Tyler and Mackenzie) were excellent and kept everyone safe (both from COVID-19 and on the course). The course was fun, but a different feel from zip lining. Zip lining is maybe more for the thrill seeker and the challenge course was a bit more strenuous. The kids really enjoyed clipping themselves from one obstacle to another. The apparatus was safe yet easy enough to manage. Overall, we had two great experiences and would highly recommend it...
