I love exploring and when you do, you find these little gems of Americana that you just don't find any other way than just getting out there and exploring. I used to do that back in the day when I rode my motorcycle all over Florida. Great walking trails and it looked like a great place to bring our kayaks! Just right up the road is a campground we plan to stay at and bring our kayaks. This site does not have RV sites, but the lake looks very promising indeed! We walked the trails, including our stroll along the dock. I love seeing the cypress trees coming up through the water, it's beautiful! If you are looking for something different to do and not too far from Wilmington, NC, (where we live) it's a nice place to get away and just be in the middle of nature! So quiet all you hear is the wind and birds, I love that! Walking around it made me think of my song, Take the Time, from my instrumental album, When Words Aren't Enough. I could hear it in my head as we walked around. Take the Time and visit here soon! You won't be sorry...
Read moreBeautiful place however, we took a group of 24 kids from WBHS for a 3 day educational experience. Everything was great. But on Saturday night I was walking back from the camp to the Ed. building when a 5 foot rattle snake with 15 rattles was taking a stroll across the road straight for the campsite. There needs to be an emergency contact number to reach the park rangers. I had to call the police department to contact the park rangers. Other than that the lake is very beautiful and peaceful. I would go back any time, just watch out for rattle snakes. And remember the woods are their home and we are the visitors. They are an endangered species so you...

We come to hike trails, and Singletary Lake only has one trail, CCC Loop, at about 1 mile in length. It begins near the Education Building. It is paved like a greenway up until the pier but then turns to gravel and straw. Very easy and flat. Semi-shaded. It is nothing more than a walk in the woods, and for hiking, it is not a destination for scenery.
The MST connects through the park, FYI.
I believe it is geared towards water activities such as kayaking and canoeing. The campgrounds look fantastic and were well utilized when we were there on the date above. The pier looks good for fishing and has a swimming area.
I am old enough to appreciate the educational aspects of parks, but the Education Building wasn't open. Disappointed.
Eh. Would skip it unless here for...
