Derr-Okamoto Park — Attraction in Elk Grove

Large neighborhood park, set in a nice neighborhood and easy to find. Large parking lot and some parking on street. Fantastic skate park and full basketball court. Large jungle gym for kids with many features both for smaller and for older children. In same area there is a water feature that gets turn on in summer months only- not a pool. Also has a separate adult exercise area. Yes, it has one bathroom building and water fountains in a few places. Trails for walking through out park with a lighted field for soccer play. In easy distance from parking lot is large covered area with a number of picnic tables and a good sized place to bar-b-que. There is a amphitheater area of sorts but I haven't ever seen it used, perhaps it is more for picnics on blankets. Lots and lots of grass and well kept planted areas. Took my 8 year olds to the skate park so they can rip their scooters. They had a great time. It was clean and still fun for an inexperienced "skater". There was a good mix of easy drop ins and little hills as well as more difficult areas. There were a lot of advanced skill level skateboarders and BMXers there. Most of them were patient with the kids and helped give them advice and teach them how to look out for others and not cut anyone off. Some weren't as patient. One of the kids cracked their nose open when they fell so we left and haven't been back but I think we will come back just maybe not on a weekend day when it is so busy. OMG!!! Perfect spot for those little tikes that need to come out and stretch. Plenty of jungle gyms, grass area, benches, covered BBQ's. It was clean and tidy and I would imagine in the summer months this place is packed due to the nifty water fountains. We saw at least 4 Birthday parties going on and 3 with large inflatable bounce houses. Rubber matting makes it a safer options for falls and also the steps and jungle gym areas are large enough for adults to climb up as well, in case you would like to participate with your children.
