Housed in an old mining office. Although it isn't overly large, there are two floors, a few rooms, and a surprising amount of interesting items to see. But, the real prize is the local guide. He is quite creative and has a wealth of knowledge about the area, family stories, railroad history, surnames of the area, etc. He has plans for more improvements, and it is evident that he enjoys preserving the history. They hold roster books, company records, and other historical documents. Donations are appreciated on admission. At arrival if no one is present, call one of the two phone numbers posted on the door.

Great local history museum Hours posted on their website/Google/maps may not be correct. Upon arrival if the museum is closed they have 2 numbers you can call for a tour. We called and a lovely gentleman was over in just a couple of minutes to open up and show us around. His family roots in the area go way back, and a grandfather worked on the railroad. So it was nice to have that perspective. Lots of photos & documents plus memorabilia from railroads and the mines. Good day trip!

If you are not from Elkhorn City you won’t appreciate this little nugget of history of this small little town!

Do not click on the web site for this museum. It will try to install a virus on your computer. It did it to me and I had a hard time getting it off my computer. The virus wants you to update your computer and you can hear a boy laughing while it is up. Just keep clicking it off until it is gone for good. X off the window if it comes up and keep Xing it off until it is gone. I hope the museum is still open. I have no...
