I live for 6 months in Eugene OR, and frequently drive through Elkton on my way to kayak on the coast. I take these opportunities to buy wines from Brandborg. One might think that they are a touch too far south, and therefore too hot, for fine Pinot Noir and Riesling, but the Umpqua Valley is wide, running right to the ocean, and this moderates the climate. Indeed, this year the area was granted its own AVA (American Viticulture Area). Excellent wines for the price. Right now I am working my way through a case of the 2009 Riesling. Delightfully dry and fresh, pleasing acid, excellent on the patio, excellent with fish. Sample flight was $15, you sampled 4 wines of your choice, it was enough to split between two people, if you bought 3 bottles the sampler fee is waived, however the fee in June/July/August goes to charity which is admirable. We sampled 4 different red wines during our stay, we sat in the covered outside courtyard, there is also indoor seating available.
