Hidden gem of new castle county. Many trails encircle the pond. Canoes, pedal paddle boats, and kayaks are available for rent at an affordable price. Across the pond is a public boat ramp (fee required). Park features a nature center, RC flying field, horse friendly trails, and a campground. Fisherman friendly.
Cost: to enter it costs $5 per vehicle with Delaware tags, $8 out of state.
Boat rentals: canoes $8, kayaks $9, pedal paddle boat $10, rowboats $7/hour
Campground: fees vary; visit their site
Pros: Convenient location Miles of walking trails Affordable boat rental Quiet small lake (almost nobody has gas powered boats) picnic tables scattered around park, some with charcoal grills excellent viewing for egrets, great heron, painted water turtles, some songbirds, dragonflies, and other beautiful wild creatures
Cons water quality bad (microorganisms). There are signs up about avoiding the toxic algae overgrowths and "scum" floating. I was at the park today (middle of July) and you can see the small chunks of algae in the water everywhere sad to see they banned swimming and did away with the sand sunbathing beach. I remember swimming here as a kid. Not really sure but I can only assume it's due to bacteria and other pathogens which are the biggest problem during hot weather - peak swim season limited number of boats to rent on weekends in the summer. If you want a kayak, probably get there when the boat rental opens. fishing seems poor, at least when we went during peak summer time. Dont know if it's the heat driving fish to deeper water or the tons of other people fishing. Might be better at another...
Read morei recently purchased a camper from stoltfus rv...check them out, there awsome. i have camped at lums pond in tents many many times and always had a good experience. this year i wanted to stay local for the first test and try an rv site for valentine's day weekend, obviously with the new camper. i reserved my site on line, that went flawlessly, i arrived and was greeted at the entry point and handed my site tag and vehicle pass. i set up and enjoyed two days. did some hiking along the lums pond trail, every one was very friendly there and respected the quiet hours. i purchased some firewood and had a very long awaited overdue nice and peaceful weekend. there water was on however i didn't use it due to still being winterized. i did use the electrical hookup and had no issues. the only thing i wasn't a fan of was the traffic. all hours of the night there would be people driving by with high beams on lightning up my camper like a Christmas tree. its a pop up with canvas walls, i expected that but some of these people were doing laps like they were in a nascar race and some of them possibly thought they were by the speed they were going. i picked a site on a bend so this is no fault of lums pond. i do recommend them, just pick a site on a straightaway so the high beam isn't focused on your unit as long as it would be on a bend. bathrooms were clean, firewood was cured. i had a great time i...

My parents were here from India. We live in NJ and he wanted to meet his old friend who was also in the USA in the same time frame but in Washington. So we decided to meet in between and chose this park to get together. Glad we chose. For DE vehicle, the parking entrance fee is $4 and for out of state vehicles it is $8.
This park has everything. You name it. Lake activities like Kayaking, boating, paddle boat, canoe, trailing, dog park, – zip line across the pond ( Go ape), Volleyball courts, trails for biking. They have divided the whole area into 4 parts. I chose area 2 as it was near the pond and dock. Ample picnic tables are there so not to worry about whether I 'll get it or not. There are lots of walking paths, picnic areas, and shelters. We paid $6 for 30 minutes for a paddle boat. Seating around the pond was so peaceful. Breeze and view of the pond, it was very soothing. Though I did no try Go Ape, it looked very exciting. Park also offers a dog park, which has a fairly sized off-leash area, a loop trail, and it goes up along the water a bit so dogs can swim. And of course camp, the best place to camping in whole DE
Overall great place to have fun.
Note: they don’t have trash bins in the park so you have to collect your trash yourself and dump...
