We came upon this amazing place while traveling to the area in September. I was on a camping vaction in the area with several acquaintances. We were doing 2 nights at loft mountain in the national park (tent camping) then 3 nights at a cabin on the Shenandoah River. First night at the camp site was pretty rough. It rained like crazy all night and into the morning, so we were pretty wet and miserable. We showered, dried our clothes, then decided to go find something to do instead of being wet all day.

One of our group suggested a winery, and she pulled up several in the area. Since it was a Monday, most were closed. Stone Mountain came up in our search, and I said "Let's go for it".

The drive up the mountain: totally awesome! It was easily the funnest drive and a great memory. The whole time we were making jokes about taking the ring to Mordor, and teasing each other that there was no winery, but a murderin' spot at the top of the mountain...haha.

Then we get to the winery and it's even more amazing than we had imagined. Sitting on top of a mountain, overlooking a valley (it was fairly overcast that day, but still...breathtaking). The owner was awesome. He told us his back story and was very engaging. The young lady who served us was great and very friendly as well. There were some cheese and meat options that were really interesting and paired well with the wines.

The wine was exceptionally well done. I enjoyed pretty much all that I sampled and the red we selected to have with some food was really good. We even got to play with two very friendly, very precocious boxer pups, aptly named: Bordeaux and Cabernet. We wound up staying there for about 3 hours and I can honestly say: we were sad to go. We will definitely be back when we are...

A Hidden Gem with Breathtaking Views and Incredible Wine

Stone Mountain Vineyards is truly a must-visit destination for any wine lover. Nestled high in the mountains, the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. The panoramic views stretch for miles, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop that makes every visit feel special.

The wine here is simply outstanding. Each pour showcases the craftsmanship and passion that goes into every bottle. Whether you're enjoying a bold red, a crisp white, or a perfectly balanced rosé, every sip is a reminder of why Virginia wine country is so special.

Beyond the wine and scenery, what truly sets this vineyard apart is the staff. They are warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. Their enthusiasm and passion for winemaking enhance the experience, making each visit both enjoyable and memorable.

If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with amazing wine and stunning views, Stone Mountain Vineyards is the perfect spot. I can't recommend it highly enough.... it's a place you'll want to return to...

I love this place...the staff/owners Jim & Deanna, the intense views, food and of course their wines. The tour was very informative for our group. Those were all good reasons for me joining the wine club. You can nearly see everything from their deck 2000' in elevation sitting on the top of a mountain. If you have issues with driving up a one lane road (most of the way) up or down a mountain for about 2 miles you may want to get a driver. That's not the problem I have though, I love the drive until I run into someone that is having a panic attack because of the height and road :)...My issue is that there is not a free glass of wine or tasting for the wine club members after that drive. The wineries we are members at do this and I was wondering if it was going to change (Cooper has unlimited tastings, Williamsburg has levels with their clubs where 2 people get a tasting a month etc). Correct me if I am wrong but the last few visits that we made this is how it worked. Thanks for multiple great experiences and...

Hidden on top of the mountain and with a very elegant and specious tasting room. Wine selection is quite tasty and the view from the balcony is worth the drive especially at sunset. Believe me, one of the most beautiful vineyards in the area if not in the state. Totally overlooked and underrated. Go there, you will love it. Update 10/3/2021: The staff was beyond friendly and inviting! The views are breathtaking! And the wine incredible! We’d totally recommend the win slushee! Truly a hidden gem of Virginia!! Most of the times it could be very peaceful and if you sit at the edge of the deck that was built back in 2019 it is even better. Remember to bring your own picnic. Dogs are super welcome and please remember to great the local dogs. They are very sweet.

Gorgeous wood cabin in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. Memorial Day 2017 was the great reopening for the new owners. The original owners sold it, but the granddaughter of the original owners stayed on and works there. They have live music sometimes, a resident friendly dog, and a beautiful view. The smaller selection isn't what you find at commercial vineyards, instead it's focused and done right. This was the only 5-star vineyard from my weekend trip. The drive up was perfectly fine, disregard the people complaining in reviews. It's not the owners responsibility to maintain a road, either. As long as you don't drive it in a Ford Pinto during a storm, you'll be fine.
