The GPS coordinates for this park is actually wrong. You will arrive at a historical landmark and will have to read written instructions on a bulletin on where to go next. Take a picture of those instructions. There is no signal where you are going. So much so, that Google maps has no information on the area whatsoever. There is nothing there on the map. You will have to go 2 and a half miles further down the freeway, and make a left turn onto a sandy dirt road that goes on for miles. You will go 2 and a half miles down that road and make another left turn. From there, there will be a parking area with an open gate. Drive through the open gate and you will see a tiny shack. This shack has two doors. It is a very dark, dingy, and filthy restroom area with a rusted metal latch for a lock and a hole in the ground. Go past that. Do not go inside. Park beside it and look to your right. You will see a closed gate with a narrow space that says pedestrians only. That is the beginning of a nature trail. The trail is not that long, and when the trail ends, the salty flats begin. A Baron land that extends for miles. By this point, you are truly isolated. No one around, no signal. Just you and the wild. Even at the furthest point of the horizon, there is no civilization. And you wonder, why is there one solar panel there? You see animal prints on the ground mixed with human footprints. Not shoe prints, footprints. You wonder how long they have been here? Untouched and undisturbed by man. Frozen in time. You traverse a whole new, Alien-like world. It is unlike anything else you have seen. It is a place outside of time. If you want a true adventure, this is the place to go. But I recommend not going alone. Bring someone. You will be without signal and cut off from the...
Read moreMy oh my, la Sal Del Rey was spectacular! First time there so I had to go explore. Not too many people are familiar or know about this diamond in the rough so I figured I’ll put it out there so everyone so can go and enjoy. Google will take you to the main entry point which is a pretty good hike to get to the lake but, if you go past the main entrance about a mile and a half to 2 miles to Brushline Road, which I posted in one of the pictures, you make a left and then you go about a mile down the dirt road and you’ll see on your left-hand side, another little parking lot to enter the trail to the lake. That trail is about a mile in and you’ll see the entrance to the lake. It’s a beautiful walk, it was a fresh breeze, lots of trees, and some deer peeking at you through the weeds. Once you get close to the lake you will sea salt or no salt, I was hoping to walk on the salt like some of the other pictures and stories I’ve heard but the lake was pretty full this time around. Either way, the walk around the lake was extraordinary. You get to see all the foot prints of the various wildlife in that neighborhood, definitely a place to take the family. If you’re feeling an extra bit adventurous, you can walk out into the water as far as you like, up to your comfort zone I would say, and enjoy some of the fresh lake water. I have a video of another family walking out into the middle of the lake. All in all, the kids and I had a great time, definitely going back with some bikes and take a dip in the water as well. Go check this place out and if you like the pics, the videos, the stories, follow me and thumb up some of the pics and share them...
Read moreIf you like Salt and the beauty of salt flats then you will like it here … if not… then you probably won’t like it so much. I came with my family and some were ready to leave after 5 minutes because it gets super hot in the middle of the day but I was loving taking lots of photos with the reflection of the water- Plus I love salt so I was already excited about checking this place out. Update- there is only one entrance into the trail to the salt flat. The second entrance is blocked so you have to enter at the first sign on Brushline. Wear sunscreen and bring lots of water! This is a wildlife area and there was animal poop on the trail meaning animals are definitely around but luckily we didn’t see any of the wild scary ones. ;) My kids had fun chasing lizards. I would say the photos probably turn out awesome at sunrise or sunset as when I came it was middle of the day and was way too bright and way too hot … less light will make the photos better. The water is also quite hot and the salty bottom is quite rough on the feet so bringing water shoes is a good option. The sand burned my feet when I came out...
