Love going to this local hiking place for me! There's a lot of meandering trails that split and meet back up with each other. Most of the trails are very well-kept except for a few dense areas where you're more likely to get ticks, and trash here and there. I try to collect stuff if I see it so it's not left there. Great place for dog walking, hiking, or taking a dip in the river. I've also seen people floating by in tubes before. The linear state park in three separate parcels along its banks was first mooted more than 50 years ago and has grown steadily over the last 20 years.
In 2019 the park was a little under 800 acres but is expected to more than double in size.

Read moreThis is one of or favorite Scantic River hikes. It is best to do in the spring, summer and fall when the cows are out. Be careful of muddy and snowy seasons as there are some steep grades. It is still a great place to explore, or sit and meditate, or splash in the river. There are a number of trials in different place that all give you great views.
