A nice place for a view of Hells Canyon and the surrounding mountains in Idaho.
I drove from Joseph and turned on the Wallowa mountain loop for about two hours on a very winding road with steep slopes.
I turned on the forest road for about three miles to reach the overlook.
The overlook area has picnic tables, vault toilets and signs that give you information on the canyon.
It is am amazing to see the deepest river gorge on North America.
A nice view of the Seven Devils Mountains in Idaho, but no view of the Snake River.
You can drive to the Hells Canyon Dam in over three hours or drive back to Joseph.
I drive back to Joseph due to the amount of time it takes to the dam.
A place to stop for the afternoon if you are in Joseph area with great views of Hells Canyon on a scenic...

There are several developed campgrounds and a ton of free dispersed camping. Most of the camp sites we saw were clean, but there was some trash that we cleaned up. We saw some deer and there are elk, bears, moose and other wildlife that live in this area. I would highly recommend doing the drive and spending a few days camping out here. You won't be...
