Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. This lake has a unique quality that I have found on no other lake that I have ever had the pleasure of water-skiing on. The sound is muffled as you glide across the water on your ski's, very little sound at all except that of the boat motor. The lake is like glass and has a depth of 300' and is about 3.5 miles long with a gravel bottom, the water is so clear you can see bottom for quite a ways from shore. The lake was formed by glaciers and is located about a mile south of the little town of Joseph. At the southern end of the lake is a state park with a boat launch and overnight camping. The deer at the park seem to have no problem being in the company of people. Don't approach though, you never know how they will react. There's also a tram located just up the road on the left past the lake that will take you to the top of the mountain where there are trails and views of War Eagle and the surrounding mountains that protect this pristine lake. Take a camera the views are amazing 😯!! As always, leave it better than you found it...
Read moreIt was a very nice lake and well taken care of. It also was a very popular lake to go to to beat the heat because there were a lot of people there. There is a boat dock on both the North and South ends of the lake. You can rent boats or paddle boards there if you want. We were staying down the road at a cabin at Eagle Cap Chalets for a family reunion on the south side of the lake. The south beach is a little rocky, so bring some water shoes. It is a great spot in the mountains and away from everything. There were some stores if we needed something close by in the town of Joseph. There was a tram close by also on the south side of the lake that you can ride on to go to the top of the mountain, but that is...
Read moreI have been coming to Wallowa Lake since I was a kid. The water is always cold so be sure to come on a hot day. The water is so clear you can see fish in the water swim by. The view is breath taking and there's hiking trails at the head of the lake. You can hike long miles or just a short exploration. The swimming is better at the foot of the lake and has a closed off swim area. The head of the lake has the Mariana which is fun, but kinda expensive. You aren't allowed to swim near the Mariana. If you time your visit right you can see the fish spawn up stream and since the water is crystal clear in the stream leading to the lake its pretty cool to watch just how...
