Intermittent light/moderate rain in W WA, probably since early 14mar2022 MON moring .. and forecast for more rain through TUE morning .. i saw a good "opportunity" for me to re-live my happy, carefree childhood days .. having fun walking in the rain, stepping in water puddles, playing with mud .. and so off i went to Flaming Geyser State Park WA.
i did a "figure-8" loop: P A B (where my mapping apps "Lost GPS Signal") meguess the ~1,000 ft section of ( C - D ) E F G H I (Ridge Trail) P
Not unexpectedly, the Trails were wet (including the secton C - D which were partially flooded), some muddy patches - which could be slippery. i had my Rubber Boots, Trekking Poles and Rain Jacket - and i did alright - its all passable with care;
Please note: on the way up to the Flaming Geyser viewpoint - after the 2x flights of Wooden-stairs, do NOT go on the the 2x Left "Spurs"; the Second Spur got me climbing up and down the steep ( ~45_deg Grade of wet, muddy "path"). Instead, keep Right for the way to the Bubbling Geyser.
The "West" River Trail, and the Ridge Trail were alright - some muddy spots - all passable too.
During my 3 hours in Flaming Geyser S.P., i only saw - in the distance - a Park Ranger, and 3 people, and 2 vehicles; a pair of (Canada ?) ducks, and a few small birds. The woods were lovely luscious mossy and green, a couple of Big Trees .. that i had to enjoy, hug and hold 😊 Lots of quiet and sweet solitude too 👍👍👍
2 of the 4 Restrooms were opened and very clean. Many thanks to Flaming Geyser S.P. folks!
Happy Trails Everyone! 😊
Because i had to shut-down, and re-started my Hiking Apps, its recorded Stats may be inaccurate: Distance 3.4 mi / Total Time: 3:11 /...
Read moreFirst time floating down the river & we had a blast! We parked one vehicle at Whitney Bridge & it does not cost anything but the parking area is small. However, there is plenty of room along the road. There is a big white barn looking house for a marker as to when to get off. Then we drove to Flaming Geyser, there you have to pay $10 to park & they do not want people parking on the grass. But you drive to the right & go as far as you can go, at the end there is a dumpster & a Lil turn around. There were a lot of people there but there is plenty of parking. Make sure to put your slip up on your dash so the Ranger don't ticket you. But after I think about 4 or 5pm the person in the booth leaves, then you don't have to pay to get in. After you park at the end then get your stuff together & it's a short walk to the river. Be sure to bring Lil kayak paddles or something cuz it helps to be able to push off the rocks once in awhile or to get thru the slower parts. There are a few places you can stop along the way to let kids swim or to pick berries. Some spots were pretty low & I got a few bruises from hitting the rocks. My son's tube was tied to me so that was a Lil more difficult but still we had so much fun! It took us about 2 hours to get to Whitney Bridge & we stopped along the way so we could pick berries & so son could swim. At one of the spots we stopped at, there is a waterfall & rope swing but also be careful cuz drop offs too. The river isn't that fast but just fast enough for our family being...
Read moreSuper duper crowded on weekends, but the hikes are worth it. Depending on where you go up to, some hikes are much more difficult. My kids (7 and 2) had a blast scaling the side of the hill and getting to go see the geysers that I remember from when I was a kid. There was a kind stranger who ended up having a lighter. But the actual hole where the gas comes out was plugged up from people messing with it over the years. There is now a little bit of water on the side of the concrete where you can see the gas coming out, since it's bubbling the water. I believe that hole got so plugged up that it cracked the concrete and created a fissure that the gas now comes out of. The bubbling geyser was cool, the kids were immediately bored by it and would rather dig up the mud lol. Wish I had my dog. She woulda loved it there. Peaceful hike up. Not many others on the trails .... But it was seriously so pretty it was worth it. Remember to bring some good sunscreen and mosquito protection. There are TONS of them. The bathrooms were also kinda gross, but hey.... At least there was a bathroom. Entry to the park was $10, payable by cash/card. We blinked and missed the playground, albeit small and not much to consider, but it did exist. On the trail up to the geyser we saw a giraffe ! 🦒 See if you can spot the teeny tiny giraffe on our next trip up the trail. (Assuming he didn't wander off to graze 😜) Overall, there were things that could be better, but it's still a great park to visit...
