The Appalachian trail is gorgeous, but be warned trail mappings like Google maps are wildly inaccurate! An 8 hour trip quickly turned into a 14 hour trip because Google maps wasn't accurately displaying the trail, it also at times recommends walking off the trail, without telling you the trail splits in the same direction up ahead.
