We camped at the Headwaters campsite, best camping experience I have ever had. The hike to the site was challenging, not for the inexperienced, but an absolute blast.
The camping was as it should be, self sufficient, isolated, able to enjoy nature and gorgeous. Just such a great, beautiful experience.
The fishing, best in the state of TN. Fly fishing the trophy section was the best in the state. Top notch and would rank it # 1 in the state.
Fishing the stocked area, one of the worst. The stocked area is just useless. It almost killed me to see so many people willing to destroy one of the best rivers in the state. The whole stocked area was just treated as one giant swimming pool with a lack of any conservative practice and allowed. Give people an inch and I guess they'll destroy it all. Because of this my rating is low and I don't expect this river to be the best in the state for long. All our our great rivers for the state will be trashed until we put better officials in charge the know true conservation. Never seen so many frustrated people just show up and leave because of the practice of others.
With that said, trophy section up was perfect and probably the best experience since I was a kid. Reminded me a lot of how Tellico river use to be before TN...
Read moreMy family and I love Rocky Fork! I'm grateful to all of the people that worked hard to protect it for future generations. I wish they had named it David Ramsey Rocky Fork State Park. I know that he put in a lot more hours into saving it than Senator Alexander, but I do appreciate the senator taking it across the finish line. Anyway, it is a beautiful place and one of my favorite places to hike. I look forward to camping in the various primitive camping areas (4 sites at various points along an approximately 10 mile loop that covers a variety of woodland terrain and vistas. David Ramsey published a wonderful book about Rocky Fork that includes its history and an overview of the process of how it became a state park. I highly recommend the book. It contains beautiful photography and is a worthwhile read. I look forward to many hours in Rocky Fork in the years to come. Thanks to the many people who fought to save...
Read moreA great state park. It's still in the growth and development stages. Trails are open, and are still being developed. There are nearly 14 miles of trails in the park, within several thousand acres. It is truly a wilderness experience. This park is a diamond in the rough. A mountain stream runs through the park, offering spectacular scenery, and great areas to fly fish. A section of river is stocked with trout. You will find native brook trout in the upper streams. It's a great park in the making. No tourists please! (Just kidding) Locals need a quiet sanctuary. Please respect the park, keep your trash in the big city, so we can keep this park pristine. This park provides solitude, surrounded by thousands of acres of raw wilderness acerage.
We ran into one of the park rangers, named Cory, who was extremely helpful and informative. He seemingly knew the park like the back of his hand. Cory gets 5 stars from us, as...
