Turtle Head Trail head — Attraction in Escondido

What a great hike! Starts off pretty mellow and gives you time to warm up before the uphill. It's a pretty Rocky path and advised to make sure you watch a map because you may go the wrong way as there are multiple paths. Overall very rewarding and not too difficult if you are a avid hiker. Maybe not the best for small children. Watch out for poison oak! There are signs posted so there's warning but always keep your eyes open. The trail to turtlehead needs some love. There are places where it has basically washed out and you have to scramble around a bit to figure out where it actually goes. Also, do not think that you can do a circuit. Google maps shows a trail that cuts across the mountain back to your starting point. That trail is on private property with lots of signs saying that they have guns and will shoot you! This is a there and back again trail. The views are pretty good but not spectacular. A great 5ish mile out and back that took me about 2.5 hours to complete. The trail starts easy and then around 0.5 miles in the scrambles and tougher trail starts until it gets easy again in the last 0.5 miles to the point. Where good grippy shoes! There's street parking right in the neighborhood but no bathrooms. Lots of wild flowers...
