Coyote Trail – A Peaceful Hike with Classic Colorado Views

Coyote Trail is a wonderful hidden gem that gives you a more peaceful, less crowded hiking experience while still offering that classic Colorado beauty. It’s a moderate trail — short enough to fit into a half-day outing but long enough to feel like you’ve had a real outdoor adventure.

The trail winds through scenic landscapes with a mix of open views, red rock formations, and occasional wildlife sightings. It’s well-marked, easy to follow, and great for both casual hikers and families. You’ll find a nice blend of meadows, rocky terrain, and shaded areas, especially if you go early in the morning or late afternoon.

One of the best things about Coyote Trail is the tranquility — it’s far less crowded than some of the nearby popular hikes, so you can really enjoy the peace and natural sounds around you.

If you’re visiting nearby areas like Garden of the Gods or Palmer Park, this trail is a perfect way to enjoy a quiet, scenic walk that still gives you elevated views and...

Coyote Valley Trail is a great option if you’re coming into Rocky Mountain National Park from the west entrance. Easy trail to start out with. The path is flat, about a couple miles round trip, and follows the Upper Colorado River through open meadows with mountain views in the distance. It’s fully accessible and has benches and picnic tables along the way.

I saw a few elk in the valley and plenty of birds. There are also interpretive signs that explain the area’s history and wildlife. While it’s not the most spectacular hike in the park, it’s peaceful and convenient if you’re on this side of RMNP or need a quick stop to...

Nice, easy, one or two mile trail through beautiful country, along a milky flowing creek. Lots of little side trails to further explore if you fancy. Lost the main trail doing so and ended up blazing my own back to car. Discovered a humongous fungus what looks like a red turtle shell from afar. Ten points if you can find it, too. Also discovered a dead elk decomposing and giving back to the community, not far from the road. Someone must have vehicular elkslaughtered it and shoved its carcass off the bank. TOURISM KILLS. Probably why I didn’t see any of the highly advertised...

Nice short easy walk, especially for someone who has pretty severe Asthma. If you are a nature geek, you can see all sorts of interesting things like the way the river pinched off a bend it didn't need and the different layers of gravel and dirt it is cutting through. How one tree had over 20 seedlings underneath and others had 5 or less. And another tree had claw or some other markings on it. All it takes is to look at the world with open eyes, like a child would.
