Wonderful site to see. The Chapel on the Rock (officially, Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel) is a functioning Catholic chapel and tourist landmark in Allenspark, Colorado, USA. The chapel is located on the grounds of the Saint Malo Retreat, Conference, and Spiritual Center of the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver. The chapel is open to the public. In 1916, Monsignor Joseph Bosetti came across a large rock formation just east of Rocky Mountain National Park and inspired by the Biblical phrase "upon this rock I will build my church", he envisioned a church built on the rock. His lack of funds delayed construction for nearly 20 years and he struggled with the Colorado Highway Department to keep the rock intact. Eventually, land for the church was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Malo and Denver architect Jacques Benedict designed the chapel, which was completed in 1936. In 1999 Boulder County designated the chapel as a historic site. Pope John Paul II prayed at the chapel during his visit to Denver for World Youth Day in 1993; he blessed the chapel afterwards. The pope later hiked in the surrounding woods and spent some time at the Saint Malo Retreat Center. In November 2011 the Chapel on the Rock was spared from a devastating fire that destroyed a majority of the retreat center, forcing it to close its doors. During the historic flooding of September 2013 the Chapel on the Rock survived, though much of the surrounding terrain was destroyed. Jeff Mullins Photography Adventures. Get...
Read morei was torn about where to place my Wife and my Son's ashes. At my wife's request she wanted Her and him to be placed at Myrtle Beach South Carolina,.in the Ocean. The Odd reason, for me, is that does not seem to be a Restful, Peaceful place, for burial, of my Wife and Son.I brought with me some of their ashes, as we were going to a River or Creek this day and I was going to spread some there and let them go through time traveling by water for years eventually coming back to the South after many, many years. My Brother and I are both Catholics. We Both had a Spiritual Experience. One that you would have to feel for yourself.I Could feel the SPIRIT....;IT was in such a Beautiful ,Restful, part of the Country. I talked to I assume the Priest?Brother? I had to ask could i bury them .I didnt want to do anything wrong. With the most KINDEST words, he spoke like an Angel.Talking to me about grief and... why I was there to do that , that I was in the right place,Right Place? I broke down and cried and cried. He gave me a medal with an Angel blowing her horn...Funny thing is...That was my wife's favorite angel..'The sound of that Trumpet' ..he said to pass it on to someone else that needs it, when I get through. My Wife and Son are Resting in the best place in this world to me.I will pass this token on..Thank you Pastor....,You have done more than you can ever know....One Day...
Read moreWe visited this place back in April when the inside was closed. So we came back in June when the inside was open. Absolutely stunning. All of it, everything. The outside, the inside, the background, the foreground. When we came in April, it was pretty dry, with some snow in spots. June, it was dry, but there was now a water area from the snow finally melting from the mountains above. It was cool to see that difference. The church itself is exactly as you think it would be, on a rock!! We took some pretty incredible photos from the road above and even throughout the property. If you love buildings and random things, it's a pretty sweet place to visit. The drive there is also incredible as you follow the peak to peak byway. Getting personal, there was something extra special about being able to talk to my late mother and say a prayer, in the house of God, so...
