The berries are good but sometimes the experience isnât the most family friendly. We have been to the farm several years in a row to pick strawberries or blueberries and this last time was our last. We came with a group of family including our 2 year old, we mentioned upon arrival that it may be difficult to keep our 2 year old from having a snack or two as blueberries are his favorite fruit so if we could pay a little extra at the end to cover any blueberries that may not make it into the bucket, one of the owners instantly snapped back that this was how they pay their bills and support themselves so there should be no blueberries eaten that arenât paid for, we stopped her and said â oh no we want to pay extra in case he eats a couple on accidentâ. Her reaction made the whole start of our family putting a bit awkward. Itâs U-Pick blueberriesâŠthey should be accounting for any âlostâ blueberries in their cost of business. Next, we were staying in our row having a nice time, luckily our toddler wasnât trying to eating anything he wasnât suppose to, but he went to cut through a space in the bushes, my husband started to stop him but at that point he was already 1/2 way through. The other owner stopped him and reprimanded him for letting out toddler cut through. This made the rest of the experience very stressful and ultimately we took our toddler away from the blueberries altogether to avoid any more awkward confrontations. I understand the costs of running a farm are extensive, but seriously, isnât the point of paying $30 for a 1/2 gallon of blueberries to have some fun with your kids and show them some of the work involved with where their...
Read moreIt was a great experience until...We brought our two kids there to pick strawberries, and as we were picking we let the kids eat some strawberries. They are two and four, and I told them to only eat a couple, and to make sure and put most of them in the box, but as people with toddlers know, it's hard to pick strawberries and micro-manage children, and I just figured let's make this a fun experience. A couple minutes later one of the owners came over and really dug into us/them. She said, "Oh my, are you guys eating the strawberries? The kids looked up grinning with strawberry juice on their faces. "Oh no, we don't eat the strawberries before we pay for them. We don't want the farmer to go out of business, do we? You want to come back next year, right?" I said ok, sure, and explained to the kids that they have to wait. Then she started a conversation with the people picking next to us, and explained to them (and us as we were five feet away) all the different costs of the farm, and how they had thousands of dollars invested in the field. It was a bit passive agressive, and just made the...
Read moreMy visit to this "U-pick" farm was a total disappointment. I picked it because it was close, hoping for fresh berries. But there were no signs when I arrived, nothing to tell me where to go. When I walked toward what looked like a seating area, the owners came out. The man said appointments were needed. The woman then rudely cut me off, saying she didn't like me walking in "her backyard." How was I supposed to know it was private when it's listed as a U-pick farm on Google Maps with no info on site? To make it worse, I later learned their U-pick costs an absurd $30 for only half a pound of berries. That's a rip-off. I believe she would have been nicer if I wasn't a POC. There are much better farms out there with genuinely kind, welcoming, "real" and who offer fair prices and a pleasant experience. I will...
