Overall this is a really nice golf course, easily one of the nicest public courses in DFW. The fairways, rough, and greens were all completely full grass, no dead spots, no dry areas, it was just full Green Grass and healthy rough everywhere. Kudos for the grounds team in keeping the course in really great shape. We even commented that the holes I think number 17 looked like a professional type of course, quality that tour players would play. The front nine I think plays a little more difficult than the back nine, mostly because the fairways are really narrow and you can't miss otherwise you are in hazard or thick trees where you can't really go in to get your ball. There are hazards lining most of the holes, unlike some public courses where you can miss the fairway by a decent amount and be fine maybe just play out of another fairway or something. This course, that doesn't happen. It's a really interesting layout, a good variety of types of holes, a couple of actually drivable par fours for big hitters, combination of long par 3 and short par 3, elevation change, lots of different looks which keeps the round very interesting. With all of this variety and change of scenery, we didn't feel like any of the layout was gimmicky or unfair, just demanding like a higher end course generally should be. This is not a course I would recommend for beginners. Is also patches of fescue and tall Grass again where if you hit your ball into it you basically just need to take a drop. I think the back nine does play a little easier, but the scenery on this course on both nines is really nice and makes for a pleasant round either way. Sometimes they will run deals, for example we played on July 4th and found some discounted tee times on their website so maybe they do this...

I recently visited Texas Star Golf Course while passing through town, intrigued by its high ratings. Upon calling, I was able to secure a tee time, I was told the greens had some poa annua on them but with a little heat it would die off.
The pros of the course are undeniable – it boasts a beautiful layout with well-maintained fairways and tee boxes. However, the condition of the greens was disappointing. Despite the reassurances about poa annua, they were absolutely unplayable. There is no grass except for poa annua and other bare spots throughout the greens. You can't at all even get close to making a putt, making the putting experience frustrating and futile.
It's disheartening to see such a well-designed course suffer due to neglect of its greens. The online booking system has even been temporarily shut down due to their poor condition, which should be communicated more transparently to potential players.
Additionally, there are numerous other courses in the area with superior greens within a short distance. Given the current state of the greens at Texas Star Golf Course, I would not recommend playing here for the next several months until they can address and improve this issue.
If the greens were to be properly addressed and maintained, Texas Star Golf Course could easily earn a four or four and a half-star rating. Until then, it's difficult to recommend it for a satisfying...
Read moreLet me preface this…. I’ve golfed here at least 10 times. I’ve always enjoyed it. This round is the last time I’ll ever play at this course. We showed up on a Sunday 20 minutes before our tee time. It was 57 degrees and drizzling. We were told to wait on the group in front of us on hole 1, since there was a morning tournament that pushed them back. We tee’d off 10 minutes late because of their scheduling issues. We got through 9 holes and let two players play ahead, keeping pace of play in mind. Shortly after, at about hole 13, the Marshall told us to pick up our ball and move to the next hole. We payed $85 a person to play this course, even thought the course is sopping wet and the conditions are less than ideal, we played. We are forced to start behind schedule, then we are harassed because we’re behind the pace of play? We were basically told we had to skip two holes, but offered no refund for them, all because the course can’t seem manage their time efficiently. The cart also stopped multiple times saying I was off the cart path when I was smack dab in the middle of the concrete. Texas star acts like they are pebble beach, when in reality, they are just the run of the mill DFW course. The staff is totally out of touch in regard to pace of play, and they couldn't care less as long as you’ve paid your green fee. That’s fine, never again. Plenty of other courses to play that don’t have Knobhead’s...
