This is a really interesting and very cool place, there is a lot of history here. The people are very nice and knowledgeable and feels like your at a family members place. The gift shop is pretty neat a lot of stones and crystals jewelry necklaces stuffed animals ect.. We bought two bags of the dirt for the miner sifter trough outside and our 6yr old was very excited and had a lot of fun finding his fossils and crystals fools gold and 2 arrowheads. We decided to do this and wait 20 min to do the last tour of the day, we were offered to join the tour that just left but we wanted to look around and do the mining before we went. Once we were done with that we went to the gate to play the tree ring game while we waited and our female guide she came over and was talking to us and our 6 yr old and he made a friend.. and she was very nice to us and he loved it.The cave tour she began and from the first till the last she was very very knowledgeable and great at telling us the historical part to the present part of every square inch of the property, she talked about the wild life to different critters insects birds bats to even mushrooms , just so many things, she located salamanders for us to see and talked about all the bats that were there and the location of them, to the early days of the cave and how the tours were done and just so many things, but like I said our little one was ecstatic and he talked to her throughout the whole tour. She talked about the movie Frank and Jessie being filmed in the cave showed us the burn spots on the ceiling of the cave so when we got home I put that movie on and showed the little one and the Mrs of the house and they were both amazed. But just the overall Tour was very very good, knowledgeable, no rush I've been on a lot of cave tours and you get rushed a lot of times in show caves and you miss a lot of things sometimes, but she took her time and interacted with all 3 of us and what was the most impressive was how she interacted with our little 6 yr old "Sheldon Cooper hey did you know" child .He talked the whole time ,and to some I know that would get annoying, but she was awesome at her trade and interacted the whole time. We will definitely go back and enjoy this beautiful place . Thank you for a great and...
Read moreArkansas has fully earned its Natural State moniker with places like War Eagle Caverns to visit. There are plenty of billboards around Eureka Springs advertising this site, and for good reason. We visited on a Saturday morning in April.
When you started driving down the hill, there are cute signs warning you that War Eagle Caverns have no cell service. They're not joking. But don't worry, you're in good hands. We parked in the well-paved parking lot and bought tickets to join a just-departing tour. About 10 people total, all other adult couples with young kids.
Our guide George was well-practiced (pictured with walking cane, for pointing) and knowledgeable. He went through his historical, safety, and amusing spiel and still responded well to questions. Everyone was masked the entire tour, nearly 2 hours.
It had been raining a lot recently so the waters in the cave were merrily rushing, but we still had plenty of dry spaces to follow the path. No narrow spaces, but a few low-hanging spots made my 6' boyfriend nearly bend in half.
We learned about moonshine operations, old family events, stalagmites, stalagtites and the process of discovering a cave with only a torch.
You can take plenty of pictures during the your and visit the well-appointed gift shop afterward. There are other activities for kids, but too cheesy for us. Tickets were $19 each and...
Read moreThe tour itself was great, the guide was very knowledgeable and well spoken. The tour is about an hour long but seems like a short tour and I actually made the last one of the day, so I was happy. It is a little on the expensive side for just walking through a cavern, but it is one of the things I wanted to do in this area.
I think the biggest issue I have is after the tour I went through the gift shop and all I really wanted was a magnet, because I collect magnets from places I've been. I don't carry cash and it was under $10, so they charged me an extra $0.50. Thats a little blah, considering I just got through spending over $20 to take the tour. Honestly, it just sucked the euphoria of the tour right out of me. It's only $0.50, but I'm really tired of being nickeled and dimed to death, especially since I just paid for the tour.
Lesson learned- if you are going to take the tour make sure you get here a little early and if you're only going to buy a trinket that is less than $10 and don't carry cash, make sure to purchase it with your ticket and go stick it in your car so you don't have to pay extra for using your charge card.
In response to - just trying to cover the credit card processing fees - start charging everyone if they use their card or put a bigger statement up at the register so people can gather everything they want when they buy...
