Tunnel Rock: A Giant's Plaything Nestled amidst the towering sequoias of Sequoia National Park, Tunnel Rock is a natural marvel that defies description. This colossal granite boulder, seemingly balanced precariously on a narrow base, is a testament to the raw power of nature. The highlight, of course, is the tunnel carved through the rock. A pedestrian-only passageway, it invites visitors to walk beneath this ancient giant, feeling dwarfed by its sheer size and weight. The experience is both exhilarating and humbling. While the tunnel itself is a marvel, the surrounding landscape adds to the allure. The towering sequoias, the lush meadows, and the crystal-clear streams create a peaceful and serene atmosphere. It's the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. For those seeking a more active experience, Tunnel Rock offers opportunities for hiking and exploring. Several trails lead to nearby attractions, including Moro Rock and the Giant Forest. Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or simply seeking a unique experience, Tunnel Rock is a must-visit destination. It's a place where you can witness the grandeur of nature and appreciate the delicate balance...

This a distinct site that most people would never think involved true California Condor raptors. Should these return, and reclaim their top-of-the-rock territory, this area will be well-protected, and closed off to the public. I know that should they return and reclaim, this means an alternate but artificial Tunnel Rock duck-in and duck-out may be feasible [like a curve ball, whew! like a psyche egg that can never be caught] perhaps, however, that is the unknown. It is true that there are moments in life when one realizes with their own recognizance that no matter who or what a person becomes, there are just some things that are curtailed immediately, and it is known that there are some things that are just not meant for he/she whom has that recognizance: knowledge, not U.F.O.'s. Hmm, U.F.O.'s...

Tunnel Rock is one of many roadside stops you can make when driving along the General's Highway in the Foothills of Sequoia National Park.

What you will find is a huge granite boulder that is balanced above the old road leading into the park. The tunnel was dug by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC Boys) in the 1930s. In the past vehicles would pass through the tunnel rock. However, the highway now bypasses this structure.

Tunnel Rock is located 1.4 miles past the Foothills Visitor Centre. Visitors can park vehicles in a small bay alongside the highway and visit on foot. You can walk up to the balancing rock and through the tunnel if you like to see it from...

Tunnel Rock is one of the first landmarks you’ll encounter after entering Sequoia National Park, just a few miles in. There are two parking areas: one on the right-hand side before passing the rock, and another behind it on the left for traffic coming from the opposite direction. It’s a popular spot, with many visitors stopping for photos beneath the rock’s massive arch. Though there’s a sign discouraging visitors from climbing to the top, some still do, so be mindful of that. It’s a fun and quick stop that offers a great photo opportunity and is a perfect way to kick off your adventure in Sequoia National Park.
