If you're looking for a peaceful and tranquil escape from the city life, the Rentschler Forest Metro Park is the perfect destination for you! This large park boasts over 1.9 miles of nature trails that are just waiting to be explored. When I visited the park today, I decided to take a stroll along the trails and was thoroughly impressed by what I saw. The park offers different trails for you to choose from, each with its own unique charm and breathtaking views. The trails are well-maintained and surrounded by lush greenery, and I found myself completely immersed in the beauty of nature. I was happy to see that even though there were a fair amount of people on the trail, it wasn't too crowded, so I was able to truly enjoy the peace and quiet. One of the highlights of my walk was when I came across a small bridge halfway through the trail. This bridge was not only unique but also thrilling as it was a bit shaky, making the experience all the more exciting. However, if you're prone to dizziness, be warned, as the bridge has a limit of 5 people and even with one person, it can shake quite a bit! Along the trail, you'll also come across a beautiful lake, which you can see from some parts of the trail. I took a walk along the lake bank, feeling the cool breeze on my face, and enjoyed the peaceful sound of the water. I'm not sure if fishing is allowed, but it's worth checking out if you're an avid fisherman. To ensure that your trek through the Rentschler Forest Metro Park is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, I'd recommend wearing hiking boots and bringing along some refreshments. Additionally, there are information boards located throughout the park that will give you more details on the different trails and the park itself. Overall, I had an amazing time exploring the Rentschler Forest Metro Park and I can't wait to go back and explore more...
Β Β Β Read moreWe recently visited for the first time over the Memorial Day weekend and were pleasantly surprised. We only hiked the Cascade Trail so that is what my review will be on.
The park website and things online are very confusing. One site says, permit not required and another say one isn't. The sign at the park also says permit required, but there is no where to purchase one in person or online. We took the chance and parked without one. I did see a worker driving around and he didn't seem to be checking cars.
The map seems okay for general navigating and there is signage around. The trails are marked okay I think. There could be some improvement, but the Cascade Trail is a big loop so it isn't a huge deal.
The trail was well maintained. A little overgrown in places, but nothing terrible. It's also really flat except for the end of the trail where you need to walk up a big hill to get back to where we parked. My kids did fine with the trial the whole time though. The bridge is super neat and my kids had fun crossing it. The falls were pretty and a nice treat, but you really have to wander around to find a good view of it. Luckily none of us minded that. The creek is really nice to play and walk in. That was by far my kids favorite part. We also found lots of fossils to explore and look at! It was a little muddy after all the rain we had received, but...
Β Β Β Read moreI used to come here as a kid, but hadn't been back for a while until 2020. While their trails are generally well maintained the suspension bridge trail that runs near the stream has some sketchy areas when it's rainy, you can see where repairs have been made and are beginning to wash away. Other areas of the trail, the woods are so scarce that you can see the nearby homes. But there's a diverse array of wildlife and plants around.
If it's a cicada spring, they are SO loud. That's one of my favorite sounds so I came back over and over. I was most recently here on one of these 55 degree December days and it's still beautiful. It's nice to have somewhere so close to home to feel...
