I initially chose to visit Wooden Valley because it is dog friendly. I was planning a get together with my family, for my birthday and Fairfield is the halfway point between us. We hadn’t all been together in years. I first went on a Tuesday to check the place out. Rose was an amazing host. She was sweeter than their dessert wine and very informative. We went home with four bottles of wine and a plan. When I got the email about our reservation, it said that we only had the picnic table from 1:30 to 3:00. An hour and a half was barely enough time to set up and eat pizza and cake, but not enough time to relax and catch up. I sent an email asking if I could extend the reservation an hour to 4:00. I got no reply, so I called and spoke with Alicia. She told me in no uncertain terms that that was impossible but that if no one else wanted the table we wouldn’t have to leave. She was not the least bit friendly about it. She was very abrasive and abrupt. It was too late to make other plans, so this left me scrambling to figure out what to do with six adults in an area I was unfamiliar with in case we got kicked out. That really soured the experience.
I should have paid more attention to the area where the picnic tables were on my initial visit. The trees do not give good shade in the afternoon. It got hot quick. Also the trees were shedding debris the entire time, into our wine glasses and food. And the staff on Sunday was more of a dry Sauvignon Blanc than a dessert wine. One lady was extremely condescending and rude. In spite of it all, my family had a nice afternoon, but if I had it to do over, I would have chosen a different venue. I...
Read moreCame here last week with a girlfriend its a beautiful lil outdoor area they have set up for outdoor wine tastings during covid times. They give you a really nice plastic wine cup. Tastings are $15 they have a really nice selection and good quality wines. I've onky ever been to napa/Sonoma area and was thinking my experience might not live up to that. But the wines were exceptional. Stacy our pourer was super friendly and was nice enough to give us an extra pour as there were so many wines they offer and we were torn between some offered. We both went home with a bottle we liked. Its also kid friendly (but I def left my lil ones at home they are too much work lol) The fall time was a beautiful time to come they had a lot of beautiful pumpkins out from Larry's im sure (their pumpkin patch is beautiful too) and the vineyards are turning golden. I wish more of the wineries offered a bite to eat but most don't. So plan accordingly mist will let you bring your own food for a picnic. Or stop at Mankas grill they have lovely out door shaded area and have also opened up their indoor section. On a Sunday they were not busy. Good food. Also the il fiorello olive oil company has lovely outdoor area. They are no longer doing oil tastings for now but offer 1 food dish per week. Call for their special. They usually offer sorbet too not sure if its still avail. But worth a visit if you get lunch there... bring a bottle of wine with you! 🍾🍷(or have a water break lol!) Looking forward to coming back to the area...
Read moreNestled in the rustic agricultural landscape of Suisun Valley AVA, this winery proved to be a delightful surprise on what started as a scorching summer day. Despite the intense heat that typically challenges wine production in this region between Napa and Sacramento, the winemakers here have masterfully crafted wines that showcase remarkable freshness and vibrant acidity. The charming backyard setting transformed our hot afternoon into a refreshing and memorable wine experience under the open sky.
The tasting flight revealed impressive complexity and terroir expression. I was particularly struck by the layered aromatics and flavor profile, detecting intriguing notes of fresh yeast, dark licorice, and bright cherry fruit, with an unexpected earthiness reminiscent of forest floor mycelium that added compelling depth. Their Riesling was absolutely stellar—crisp, balanced, and perfectly suited to the warm weather. The highlight was an enlightening side-by-side comparison of their Chardonnay vinified in two distinct styles: the French oak treatment delivered rich, creamy butter notes with beautiful integration, while the stainless steel version showcased bright citrus and subtle lemongrass aromatics with pristine fruit expression. Both expressions were exceptional, demonstrating the winemaker's skillful approach to showcasing varietal character through different techniques. This Suisun Valley gem proves that world-class wines can flourish in...
