Small parking lot. Open to residents of the Town of Fairhaven. Must purchase a beach pass. Out of town passes are available in the spring and are limited. The beach itself is pretty and the sand is very fine and white. The beach is on a point, to the right is a shorter walk through the dunes. To the left is a longer path through the marsh. Pack light. In season, life guards are on duty until 3pm and the trailer with bathroom leaves with them. NO DOGS during open hours. Another important note: when the small lot is full you will have to wait.

Getting here by bicycle is glorious. This is an end-of-land unpaved parking lot with dune paths to the waterfront, featuring a WW2 era lookout tower. The island is connected by causeway, and still peppered with tiny crooked beach shacks -though increasingly modernized. The beach is lovely, and somewhat sheltered by the Elizabethans, with low surf. It's a Fairhaven town beach, so parking policy favors residents. Check before making the drive, or ride your bike!

It’s a very nice beach, it’s also quiet if you are willing to walk just a bit further from the entrance. Also a beautiful place to observe birds and other kinds of wildlife.

First time at west island. I googled west island tower in Rhode island, and parked overnight after a late night walk by the beach under full sky stars. I wish that huge light casting over the parking area would be shut at times to enjoy full darkness. Water was great, but better have water shoes since the beach isn't barefoot friendly, even for someone who walks barefoot a lot.

The morning sunrise was mind blowing and I enjoyed myself with my feet in the water while sitting on my folding chair. Great weather at this time of year. Great place for dog lovers and owners. Beach access to those handicapped, or strollers.

Go and enjoy some stars action followed by sunrise, and let me know what else I should check out! Follow me on instagram or Facebook @yanivkovalski

Would live to hear recommendations...

Tuff for us to say anything negative, ever, because we love beaches so much. It is beautiful out here! One side calm the other a bit windy, more open. Water is crystal clear, lots of small fish swimming by! Sand is actually not sand lol more like tiny rocks. Beach has intermittent clumps of dried seaweed. Horseflys bouncing around, wife not happy about that, two bites so far. Maybe some repellent next trip. 20.00 For non-residents had to scrape up change to cover ps., they "take checks". Over-all still worth the trip. Just know what to expect and come prepared. Will try to...
