This 94 foot waterfall, named for âwater on the mountain,â is something else- the tallest of all the falls in Ricketts Glen. If you start in the highland trail and loop around the far side past Ricketts falls and down to the three below the loop, and then ascend the second leg of the loop, it kind of helps build the excitement for Ganoga. My kidsâ are pretty fast and busy, but by the time they made it to that last stairway up along the right side of Ganoga, it made them feel like they had almost made a summit (same idea, a building up of anticipation)- I would definitely want to do it that way and not start the descent on that side. The magical mist was perfect today blowing off the power of cascading water; we had started to build up some sweat and as we descended to the pools of Ganoga, the breeze and mist cooled us off fantastically and welcomingly. I would caution potential hikers on slippery rocks, inclines, and stamina for the trail- if you take it slow I think it is very doable but it is remoteâŚI started to receive satellite reception next to Ganoga and lost it by the time we reached the top, so, as a mom with four I was a little anxious of the proximity of edges and wet rocks and communication issues should needs arise- not to deter anyone but to think before you start- good shoes, water and first aid kitsâşď¸ beautiful experience - I would definitely go in spring and not wait for summer conditions - the water benefits from winter runoff providing a more robust waterfall in comparison to July-august weather conditions-part of the Ricketts Glen State Park waterfallsâŚour family has paid dozens of admission fees to see waterfalls that, after walking this loop seem like kiddy pools after swimming the English ChannelâŚ.start here if you live on the East Coast for waterfall exploration-PA State Parks have no admission so...
Read moreThe falls trail is absolutely beautiful! 18 falls on the loop trail, another 3 off loop if you have the energy đ I came in on a Saturday, around 10:30AM via the Lake Rose parking - it was full, but don't get discouraged, keep driving! Go a bit further to the Jean lake beach parking lots- there was plenty of room! It gets crowded closer to noon There is a beach if you just want to go for a swim and not do trails, but the trail is very recommended! Difficulty - the way down is fairly easy and that is coming from me (a heavy smoker that doesn't exercise) if you don't have bad knees. Wear good hiking shoes! There are wet rocks, roots and sometimes mud - this is not the time to wear the pretty sneakers. Now the way back up- for me was challenging a bit so I took a lot of breaks. All and all it took me a bit under 4 hours with plenty of breaks, photo taking and snacks.
The trail is well shaded, no bugs, there were a lot of people but not crowded to a point you can't enjoy the trail. The trail is dog friendly. Regarding the best ages to comcarriers, kidse here- I saw parents carrying babies in back , older people - this is suitable for any age as long as your knees can handle rocky terrain and steps.a lot of...
Read moreGanoga waterfall, the tallest, the loudest (in terms of water crashing down the 90+ ft high slope), and the most majestic waterfall in Ricketts Glen State Park, is a sight that you donât want to miss on a hike on the falls trail. This waterfall is drastically larger in person than it appears in pictures, and nowhere else in the park is the natural scenery more breathtaking than here. I really wish I could have spent more time to gaze at the massive amounts of water cascading thunderously and crashing into the shallow pond beneath the falls, but I will never forget the phenomenal experience that I had hiking and exploring Ricketts Glen State Park. I will definitely return next time Iâm in...
