This review only applies to GETTING THERE...if you can. GPS navigation got us to where there was a tiny sign pointing us there, but the road nearly disappeared into layers of rock and mud and became VERY steep. We ended up having to backslide part of the way back down & complete a very dangerous multipoint turn (emphasis on MULTI) to be able to get out of there. We never made it all the way to the top. We tried to call and no one ever answered. Reviews were so good, I really wish we could have gotten there. There should be more warnings on their website as to the road conditions and vehicle limitations. If there is some other entrance, we never found any indication of it via the website or signage. Google search listed it as "OPEN" and website notes that tours are NOT cancelled due to weather.
UPDATE REGARDING REPLY: As stated in review, the 1☆ only applied to "GETTING THERE". To be fair, I've adjusted the review to 3☆ since we unfortunately never were able to enjoy the experience. Hopefully those who intend to visit will make sure they have a vehicle able to make the trek before spending $ to make a reservation or go with a tour company who does the driving. NOTE: We understand that tge 2hr tours are by appointment only. The google listing now shows business hours as "CLOSED". If it had said that the day we went, we never would...
Read moreThis was a really cool experience. Everything from the view from the mountaintop, seeing the cacao trees growing and tasting the chocolate was super nice! The chocolate was really good! A couple of things to we wish we had known that might help you have a good experience. Wear good shoes. It's a farm and if it has rained at all it will be muddy and part of the tour is an uphill/downhill hike. Walking sticks also recommended. If you have young kids, the tour does involve a decent amount of intellectual type info about the varieties of cacao, how it's grown and such. It's all really interesting and my husband and I loved it, but our six year old got antsy. Speaking of ants, there were fire ants mounds, so there again, closed toed hiking shoes with socks recommended. Parking is interesting. The farm employees helped us figure it out, but be careful on the narrow road, sometimes steep incline and muddy conditions. Once you park, they use RTVs to take you up the steepest part to where the tour begins. I imagine improving the roads into the farm are high on their list of...
Read moreWow, this was an excellent tour to take. What an adventure to emerge yourself into chocolate heaven 😋. The tour starts promptly and you must arrive at least 30 minutes in advance. You are picked up by 4 wheel atv and transported up the mountain. Be prepared and wear tennis shoes because you will be walking through the Cacao trees on open paths and seeing nature truly how you should experience it. This is a great expedition and the tour can be booked either in English or Spanish. We spent around 3 hours here, you get to taste the Cacao right from the pod and then processed into different percentages of chocolate. The owner is very passionate in her love for nature ❤️ and making your experience a wonderful one. I will definitely be back and maybe volunteer one summer picking pods. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable on the Cacao trees and cultivation of the same. Once we reached the top we were given some snacks and relaxed while we listened to the process of the Cacao with samples. Definitely put this tour on your list of sites to see in...
