I have always enjoyed Smith’s dependable produce. It is a drive for me to drive that far East, but worth it. Unfortunately, the roasted green chilies I bought yesterday were subpar to say the least. When I arrived, there was was no one roasting chilies, even though I called beforehand to make sure they were and was told yes. I reluctantly bought half a bushel that was already refrigerated with the intention of buying an entire bushel of chilies at another time when they were freshly roasted. This evening I opened the package that I bought yesterday. They were obviously pulled from the fire too soon, as they were still too raw and too firm to peel. The skin would not come off without a vegetable peeler. They had absolutely no taste because of the lack of roasting. The skins were tough and too firm when chopping. I am disappointed because not only had I made the trip intentionally, but spent $32 on a product I cannot use. I am on a strict budget so I have to choose my purchases carefully. My experience was not unpleasant. The young woman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. I am not pleased with the chilies, but I am very happy with the rest of the produce which is fresh...
Read moreVery nice little spot with very friendly people! Nice selection of great quality local produce. The main reason for the trip was for Pueblo green chilies. It wasn’t a big deal to drive approximately 30 minutes to get some get green chilies opposed to driving to Pueblo. I bought two bushels of medium chile and although I will say the flavor was great and it will more than meet my needs, the chile could have been roasted a little longer. Unfortunately when I got home I realized once separating the chilies into smaller bags for freezing, the chilies were a little raw as far as roasting goes. My suggestion for the young people working here is to roast the chilies a little longer. I had to take some extra time at home to peel the skins off the chili which was kinda frustrating as I’m used to the skins practically falling off. Not a big deal, but just a tip in the future. I wouldn’t mind coming here again, but I will know to ask for the chile to be roasted just a bit longer. Overall, I really liked the experience and the friendliness of the people working here. We purchased some watermelon which was delicious! Stop by and try it out. Also $48 a bushel is a little...
Read moreWe like coming out here a couple times per month in summer for local Colorado produce. Today, July 17th, is a bit early for local watermelon and cantaloupe so they have melons from GA. We did get some early small Rocky Ford cantaloupe that are delicious! Also available was Pueblo county corn that is fresh, green-leafed, and I'm confident will be tasty! Later in summer, they roast green chile which is torture to smell because it smells SO GOOD! I do believe last year they had Hatch chile too for those of you that have to have it, but I prefer the local Pueblo mosco chile. Also available are lots of Colorado canned salsas, jellies, etc, tortillas and frozen local beef. The prepared canned and frozen beef isn't the cheapest (reason for the four star) place to go but very friendly and very...
