I come here almost everyday. Although the main Hidden Cave is locked up, I have found at least 5 other caves. A lot have animals inside that get pissed so I frequently have to evacuate. Especially rattlesnakes. My favorite cave is the one I recorded below, but I’ve since found a rattlesnake in there so idk if I can go back in. Which sucks cause as you can see, it’s absolutely beautiful. Rattlesnakes are literally everywhere so beware. I got scared by one, fell on my butt, screamed, dropped my camping chair and ran for my life. Came back the next day and the chair was already gone. I can say I’ve had one of my most genuinely scary moments of my life here. I was I wish the main Hidden Cave was open but I understand it’s closed so people don’t damage it or steal from it, but I’m a solo hiker and don’t want to have to do a tour with tons of people and guides talking my ear off. I did the tour once as a child years ago and started crying lol.

Take trail on right that rises to the summit for great views. Good picnic spot. Numerous caves along the walls are open but access to Hidden Cave is locked due to vandals. BLM arranges guided tours. Many interesting rock features & colorful lichen. Banks of calcified algae overhead define the previous water line of the ancient Lake Lahontan. Informative trail markers. These sandy trails can be slippery, advise wearing hiking boots. We stopped for a leisurely stroll through the Petroglyph Park on our way back to the highway.

Hidden Cave is the oldest archeological site in Nevada, the cave dates back 10,000 years ago! Digging had stopped for a long time now and the BLM provides tours 2 Saturdays a month. It is a pretty steep half mile trail to reach the cave. Petroglyphs can be seen on the way up there. Ancient Native American artifacts can still be seen in the cave like an arrow shaft sticking out of the dirt wall. This was a very worthwhile trip!!!
