This fifty-one acre property is currently owned by Salt Pond Area Bird Sanctuaries (SPABS), incorporated in 1962 after beginning as a committee in the Massachusetts Audubon Society (Mass Audubon). The building itself has been listed as Crowell-Bourne Farm on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980. The railroad running past the property has since become Shining Sea Bikeway, which I had biked a few days early. Linking the farm to the nearby woods was a cattle tunnel, which historically allowed cows and sheep to safely cross underneath the tracks. I could walk through this tunnel easily, but some visitors might need to duck.

Beautiful! Well kept trails that intersect the Shining Sea Bikeway. We visited in June. Still plenty of flowers in bloom including rhododendron and dogwood. We even found a growth of Ghost Pipe!

Absolutely love this place! Beautiful peaceful. Great for photos. Apple trees and grape vines will be ripe later. Met the pumpkin farmer who had just planted pumpkins for the later season.

If you are looking for a magical walk in the woods through fields of wildflowers past rock walls and even through a little private tunnel, Bourne Farm is your spot. It is absolutely breathtaking and the grounds are gorgeous and so beautifully maintained. It is dog friendly, however please be sure to pick up after your dog and in case you forget there are probably 15 signs to remind you. I would give it five stars but sadly, an appointment in advance is required in order to see the 18th century buildings on the property. I will definitely Make an appointment to see it in September..

If you really don't want to spend the day at the beach, don't really want to walk through crowded streets downtown or at Mashpee Commons, just take a quick drive over to Bourne Farm. We are so very blessed to have places like this...

Once an historic working farm, it's now a beautiful bird sanctuary. One can relax or picnic or walk around the fields or explore the trails through the woods. Look for the Cattle Tunnel. The grounds and fruit trees are impeccably maintained. It's a pet friendly...
