The park itself was beautiful and awesome to take the horses to for a nice relaxing day out. However unfortunately we had to encounter an extremely rude park ranger. His name was Kenny strum, I believe, the last name could be a little off. He came up to me as I was packing up and told me if his name was on the side of the trailer like mine is he didn’t think he’d park like that. I kindly explained to him when I did my research online it said trailer parking was at the lot I was in. He then told me that was correct but he would have parked in the “horse trailer parking” (grass coming in to the parking lot) I then explained I had never been here and there was no obvious sign or physical sign that grass was for trailer parking. Then he went on to tell me I am the reason that bikers don’t like equestrians on the trails. I wasn’t aware that was the case as everyone I encountered today was lovely except for Kenny himself. I absolutely wouldn’t have minded any suggestions as I said it was my first time here but to go about it in such a rude way was not the way I wanted to end a nice day...
Read moreVisited in 2017. A little hard to find, because let's face it, the main attraction is a 0.5 mile bridge that is part of a 30+ mile trail that has multiple access points.
The LOVE sign can be found in downtown Farmville, which is a 4.4 mile (one way) walk to the bridge. Having already hiked that day, my group was looking for a slightly shorter route that still allowed us to experience the bridge, so we eventually headed to 555 River Road, Farmville and walked only a mile to the bridge (and then across) for a 3 mile round trip walk.
What an amazing experience! We were fortunate enough to visit on a day with very blue skies and large fluffy white clouds, so the views were fantastic. If you look to the upstream side of the bridge, down to the remains of the old stone bridge, you can see a lot of old railroad spikes from past days. Very...
Read moreHigh Bridge Trail is an amazing trail to go walking, biking, or horseback riding. Due to it being a converted railroad track, the grade is easy. The view at the High Bridge is amazing and well worth the ride/walk. Camp Paradise is a nice area to jump on the trail (there is a parking lot to park your car) or to stop and have a picnic. There is a place to tie up your horse as well as bathrooms. The bathrooms are really just really nice outhouses and can smell pretty awful, but it's a bathroom on a trail, so you get what you get. On the backside of the parking lot there is an old graveyard that interested the group of high school students I had with me. Jump on the trail here and ride the 5 or so miles into Farmville for a bite to eat. It's an...
