The lake itself and the facilities except for the rental store are nice. The rental boats and kayaks are OK. HOWEVER, be very careful about renting from the guy in this photo. He took a deposit on my credit card for $100. We rented two kayaks for one hour at $12/hour/each, i.e. $24. He tried to tell us we had the kayaks for 2 hours but I was careful to check the time after renting the kayaks. It was 3:45pm as I left the store. We got back at 4:45pm. I have two witnesses. He wants to take the charge out of the deposit and return the difference. That would have been $100-$24 rental= $76 return. I just checked and he only returned $42. At the time I asked to see the rental paperwork. He refused to show it to me. I asked for the partial refund receipt. He refused to give that to me. I asked him for a rental receipt. He said he didn't have to give me a receipt. I asked him his name. He refused to give me that as well. I told him that he had to give me those things as a matter of law and all he kept saying was that not he didn't and he doesn't care. He must of said he doesn't care a dozen times and this may have been the only true thing he said. He gave me the impression that management was OK with this kind of thing. So, IF you really want to rent something from this place, be very, very careful. Get the rental paperwork when you rent it. Check the time. Check everything thoroughly. Keep a copy. When you get back, note the time right away and confirm with him. Request your deposit returned and pay with a separate charge. That way he will have to let you see the charge in order to get it signed. That was part of his scam. I signed for the deposit, not the payment. Before you give him the signed credit card slip, request a rental receipt. Check as soon as convenient to make sure the charges on your card or correct. I understand that a concession has been given to Rocky Mountain Recreation. If they do not replace this guy, then they should...
Read moreAlthough I've passed Pyramid Lake dozens of times in my life, this was my first time at Pyramid Lake. It is huge with plenty of parking! It looked as if there was only one loading dock, though, but big enough for maybe 3 boats at a time to get in the water or get out of. There are spots at Pyramid Lake only accessible through boat. There were many places that someone could anchor their boat and fish or be alone. There were a few bathrooms we counted, including a bathroom in the middle of the lake. No toilet seat covers, but there was toilet paper, just BRING hand sanitizer! The water to me didn't look very see-through or clean, but there wasn't any visible algae. Pyramid Lake is a wonderful place to take out your boat and go fishing or just relax and tan. The breeze was nice, and there were plenty of...
Read morePyramid Lake is a beautiful lake right off hwy 5. Do not take the exit that signs tell you to. Continue on to the Smokey Bear exit.
Seems to open at 7am. I got there about 10 min before and waited in the car line that was already there. Don’t forget if you have ANY water craft that you need to get it inspected (it is right off the road).
It got windy pretty early (around 9am). Lots of people there to fish and speed around the lake. Since I paddle board, this, plus the wind made it pretty rough.
The woman at the inspection site and the woman at the fee kiosk were super friendly. Sheriffs were in number. I have attached the most recent fee schedule.
I wish the conditions were more calm on the water, but I can see why this is a great place for...
