Geist Park & Bell Ford Bridge - Sunset Photography Paradise! Geist Park in Fishers, Indiana, is a serene 17-acre haven perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and families. Nestled along Fall Creek, this peaceful park offers Nature Escapes with its lush wetlands, prairies, and scenic trails ideal for hiking and wildlife spotting – a birdwatcher's dream! You'll also find Recreational Delights, like a canoe launch, fishing spots, picnic shelters, and playgrounds. The star attraction, however, is the stunning Bell Ford Bridge, a historic, covered pedestrian bridge and the world's only combination Post truss bridge. Reopened in 2025 after a $7.5 million restoration, this 19th-century marvel (built in 1869) spans Fall Creek, connecting Geist Greenway Trail segments from 96th Street to 131st Street. Its covered design makes it a perfect sunset photo spot, with clear polycarbonate siding offering unobstructed views of the creek and surrounding beauty. Highlights: - Scenic Trails: Explore nature and wildlife along peaceful pathways - Water Activities: Canoe launch and fishing opportunities - Picnic & Relax: Sheltered areas and tables for family gatherings - Historic Landmark: Bell Ford Bridge, a unique engineering gem - Photography: Ideal sunset views from the covered bridge Tips: Arrive early for parking, and visit the bridge around sunset for breathtaking photos. Enjoy the park's natural beauty and the bridge's rich history.

The size shown on the diagram shows quite a small park, but it’s misleading. There has been a long construction project cutting foot traffic access along the N-S road along the east edge (Florida). They have been building a covered bridge paralleling Florida Rd but it cuts the trail access from the park to other major areas. There are several picnic tables and good enjoyable trails along the White River, down about 0.45 miles to the west. The wood covered bridge is ~96% complete and when done, Geist (with good parking) will be a great place to stop and do a group picnic or walk & fish along the river. But also to tag on into the major trail system in the SW Fortville/Fishers area.

I've been coming here for 30 years, back before it was even a park. Sure would be nice if they would remove the enormous Boulder they just put in the way of the Path to the Kayak launch! They did it so people have to pay the $40 at the boat ramp to launch a Jon Boat. Rather rude to be honest! I have both a Jon Boat and a Kayak both of which I use a cart to roll down to the river! Now this huge rock is in the way!!! It's ridiculous! There is another opening on the fence on the other side of the parking lot, But the opening isn't very easily accessible because of the location of the opening due to a parking space being directly next to it.

We go kayaking from this location, and there is a good ramp on the south east side of the park by Fall Creek. There is a second ramp but it’s much smaller and far more dangerous for kayakers that is on the southwest side of the park by the creek. I don’t recommend using that one, but the first one that I mentioned is really good. You can paddle either way, east or west, but paddling east you will have to traverse the remnants of an old low head dam, which are considered to be dangerous. However, we paddle through it all the time. I’m sure you’ve got a life vest on, and paddle at your own risk in that area. It’s very very beautiful in this location and we kayak your dozens of times over the summer. Bathrooms in the park can be a little suspect, which is unusual for fishers and Hamilton County....
