This is Non- Profit. Everyone who works there, does so as Volunteers, except for one Gal. I am so sorry I don't remember her name, but she may as well be called a Volunteer, because she is in charge of the Whole place. Her tires efforts have Saved the lives of countless animals. A Camel is being brought into good health & safety there. Multiple types and ages of Tortoise live there now after being saved from abusive homes and situations. A whole pack of Wolves live there now. You can find Lion, Tiger, Bear, and ANY OTHER mammal you can imagine, at the Outpost in any certain time. We were told people even drop animals off outside of the Outpost at night for her to find next morning!! Do you know that in Florida, you are allowed to Legally own animals we find Only at zoos in other states! ! THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Folks tire of these "pets" as they grow up. The so called " Petting Zoos" should Not be attended. They only keep those animals while young! ! What do they do with the even slightly older ones? You Don't Want to Know. The "Lucky" (ha! ) ones end up here or at other, the few other, places around the Eastern US. Help the Outpost by donating time(desperately needed! ) money, & by spreading the word about the Everglades Outpost. ALSO, Support 👍❤️ changing the laws concerning ownership of certain animals as pets, like -Zebra( one is at the Outpost), Lemurs(kin to Monkeys), Sloths, Lions, Alligators, etc They are there after being Rescued. Thanks for any help you can offer. (if helpful, please "like")...
Read moreYou have to consider the massive impact of the hurricane last year when you go to see this little rescue. They are none profit, which means they don't get any funds to help with the animals. The animals are well fed and are in pretty good health. The wolves ears were bleeding and half gone, it looked like ear mites were eating their ears,( A friend of mine found a stray dog that had ear mites that bad, this is why I say the wolves have ear mites) flys buzzing all around them. We felt terrible for them. When we first got there was nobody at the area you pay, but a female came out and explained they are slow during the week and they were short handed for the day, but what bothered me was we didn't see a single person outside doing anything, no cleaning up ( which their reptile area is in dire need of) but as we were leaving there were about 8 people that came out to the pool area where they do a gator show. It was also very hard to find this place, there sign blew away and we were tild they have not gotten around to putting up a new one. It hurt my heart to think these animals were in somebody's backyard..and to see this rescue struggling, I think they had the wind knocked out of them and I'm hoping they get back...
Read moreThis was probably the coolest thing I have ever experienced in my life! My husband and I did the behind the scenes tour. We spent about 2 hours feeding a tiger, camel, donkeys, wolves, cougar, panther, black bear, crocodile, opossum, skunks, and zebra. We also got to pet their lemur, fox, opossum, and camel. All of their animals were rescued and are very well loved. I am a veterinarian and I can tell you that these animals are well cared for and mentally stimulated. All the reviews saying the animals look bad or are crippled have to realize that these animals were rescued. Most of these animals are extremely old and were abused before they were rescued (like big cats being declawed- that is detrimental to their longterm health). Don't expect to see baby animals that were purchased to be on display like a zoo. This is a rescue and rehabilitation place. The experience was SO affordable too. For 100 each, we got to do more than you could ever experience at a zoo for a fraction of the cost. I will probably come back next time I'm in Florida. Seriously the best...
